Postdoc in Microwave Reconfigurable Metasurfaces – DTU Space

Danmarks Tekniske Universitet (DTU)

If you want to push the much-needed advancement of our wireless society and support the development of your scientific career within the promising research field of metamaterials and metasurfaces, the present project is the right one for you.
If you want to push the much-needed advancement of our wireless society and support the development of your scientific career within the promising research field of metamaterials and metasurfaces, the present project is the right one for you.

At DTU Space you will have the opportunity to theoretically, numerically and experimentally investigate microwave- and mm-wave reconfigurable metasurfaces embedded with phase-changing materials. Particular emphasis will be placed on their experimental characterization in our world-class DTU Electromagnetic Test Centre for high-accuracy testing of antenna- and microwave technology.

Responsibilities and qualifications
Your focus will be on the design as well as experimental characterization of reconfigurable microwave- and mm-wave metasurfaces embedded with phase-changing materials (e.g., vanadium dioxide). Emphasis will be placed on simple; proof-of-concept designs capable of supporting a wide range of electromagnetic responses like beam-steering and shaping, which are in high demand for the wireless systems of tomorrow.

You will work within the framework of the CERMETAD project (Ceramic Embedded Metamaterials for Microwave Application Devices). You will interact with colleagues at DTU Space, particularly it’s Division for Electromagnetic Systems, and our project partners from DTU Electro, as well as with our international partners. Your primary tasks include:

  • Design of reconfigurable metasurfaces with phase-changing materials
  • Electromagnetic characterization (free-space and waveguide) of phase-changing materials
  • Electromagnetic characterization of reconfigurable metasurface
  • Dissemination of scientific results in highly reputed journals and conferences
  • Supervision of BSc and MSc projects within the field of the project

As a formal qualification, you must hold a PhD degree (or equivalent).

You must have excellent all-round experience in analytical, numerical and experimental electromagnetics and a very good knowledge within the field of metasurfaces, and preferably within the basics of material science.

We expect that you are self-driven, and that you have the ability to structure and prioritize the work ahead of you. You can work independently but are in possession of very good communication skills that will enable to work in teams and thus to become an integral member of the CERMETAD project team and our division.
