Assistant/Associate Professor Position in Computer Science with a Focus on Visual Data Science

Syddansk Universitet (SDU)

Application deadline: 31 August 2024 at 23.59 hours local Danish time.
As part of expanding the Centre for Visual Data Science, the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science at the University of Southern Denmark, Odense, invites applications for assistant and associate professor positions in Computer Science. We interpret the area of visual data science broadly. The candidate should have a background in visualization, visual analytics, human-computer interaction, computer vision, natural language processing, computational linguistics, digital humanities and/or related areas of research. Experience in infrastructure design for large projects and/or in developing machine learning solutions is a plus. In addition, the capability to successfully conduct research projects in interdisciplinary collaborations with domain experts in the humanities, social sciences, biology, defense or health is perceived as a fundamental skill for employment at the Centre for Visual Data Science.

Requirements
The candidate

  • is a computer scientist, data scientist or an applied mathematician holding a PhD
  • has a strong record of research at a high international level, reflecting the academic age of the applicant
  • can teach and advise in data science and computer science at all levels.

Application process and appointment information
For permanent hirings at the associate professor level, applicants are expected to have demonstrated the ability to direct independent research projects and obtain external funding. An appointment as an assistant professor lasts for three years, after which a permanent position on associate professorship level is expected to be opened, for which the assistant professor can apply.

Further Information
Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of Danish is not a requirement: more English than Danish is used when teaching in computer science, and more than half of the research staff members in computer science have international backgrounds. Our new colleague will be offered Danish courses by the university. Applications from promising early-career talents are highly encouraged.

Deadlines and Contact Information

  • The proposed starting date is 1 February 2025.
  • Application deadline: 31 August 2024.
  • For further information, please contact Professor Stefan Jänicke at [email protected].
