Assistant or associate professor in Biochemical Engineering

SDU Biotechnology (BIOTECH) at University of Southern Denmark (SDU) invites applications for a position as an assistant or associate professor in Biochemical Engineering. The position is available from

1st January 2025, or as soon as possible hereafter.

The successful candidate will be expected to engage in research falling within, or in synergy with, the following areas at BIOTECH related to one or more of the following research fields:

• Food Chemistry
• Fermentation technology and anaerobic digestion
• Biotechnology
• Algae Biosynthesis

Experience in one or more of the above area is therefore highly valued for this position. The successful candidate is expected to initiate and obtain funding for competitive research activities. Dedication and experience with teaching within fermentation and biochemical engineering at both the undergraduate and graduate level is also expected. The position thus holds a high level of responsibility, but also comes with an opportunity to influence, be part of, and conduct research and education to the highest international level.

Qualifications
The candidate must have a PhD or equivalent in either Biochemical Engineering, Bioengineering, Chemical Engineering, or closely related discipline relevant to this position. In addition, some years of experience as a postdoc is expected.

The candidate should have experience within:

• Research in Chemical and Biochemical Engineering (see above for details)
• Teaching in Biochemical engineering, biotechnology or related areas.
• Collaborating with companies/industry, and/or public sector

Conditions of employment
Appointment as assistant professor is temporary and for an initial 3-year period. During employment, the assistant professor must complete the Lecturer Training Programme.

Appointment as associate professor is permanent.

The successful applicant will be employed in accordance with the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. Further information on salary and taxation.

Employment as assistant professor requires scientific qualifications at PhD level at the time of employment. Employment as an associate professor requires academic qualifications at PhD level as well as scientific and teaching qualifications at a level achievable based on satisfactory completion of a period of employment as assistant professor/researcher but may be achievable by other means.
