We invite applications for a position in Digital Health as either Tenure-Track Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Full Professor at the Department of Computer Science (DIKU). We are looking for a researcher to strengthen and complement the research profile of Digital Health as part of the Section for Software, Data, People & Society section (SDPS) We welcome researchers from various backgrounds in Digital Health, whether early-career or experienced, with an ambitious, innovative mindset and a strong intellectual curiosity. The position is open from 1 May 2025. The starting date can be negotiated.

The SDPS Section’s research spans computer-supported cooperative work and human-computer interaction to software and data management technologies, and participatory methods for information system development – often in interdisciplinary settings and in collaboration with public and private stakeholders. There are multiple opportunities for collaboration with the other sections at DIKU. The sections are Human-Centred Computing, Image, Machine Learning, Natural Language Processing, Programming Language and Theory of Computing, and Algorithms and Complexity. There are also multiple opportunities to collaborate with other faculties at the University of Copenhagen, including the Faculty of Health.

It is a high priority at our department to foster a research environment of the highest excellence, allowing people from diverse backgrounds to thrive. As part of SDPS, you will join a rapidly growing department with strong research sections in the many areas of computer science and with a cross-faculty educational program in Health Informatics. We are co-organising the UCPH Network for Digital Health, taking part in the collaborative initiative Future Prevention and Health as well as heading two centres within Artificial Intelligence: the SCIENCE AI Center and the Pioneer Center for Artificial Intelligence.

Description of the position
You will be given the opportunity to excel in all areas of their research, leadership and teaching. The opportunities and expectations are relative to the seniority of the position, as outlined below.

Research
You will be supported in shaping the broad field of Digital Health through your research. This will include contributing to increasing collaborations between departments, faculties and disciplines within University of Copenhagen related to Digital Health and engaging in the new UCPH Digital Health Network. You will also be encouraged to participate in and organize outreach activities as an important aspect of disseminating research.

For Tenure-Track Assistant Professor you will primarily focus on research, publishing and scientific communication. For Associate and Full Professors, you will focus on both their own research and advancing the broader field of research. This will include assessment tasks, grant applications, and research management.

Leadership
You are expected to make a significant contribution to leadership at DIKU. Depending on your seniority, you will have the opportunity to mentor young researchers, and use and develop leadership skills. This includes participating in initiatives that support diversity and inclusion within academia. Associate and full Professors will be expected to carry out PhD supervision and training of research fellows and other staff.

Education
The candidate will also teach, supervise bachelor and master students, prepare, and participate in examinations, and fulfil other tasks requested by the department. This will include research-based teaching.

Specifically, you will have the opportunity to shape the Health Informatics education Bachelor’s and Master’s program. The cross-faculty educational program in Health Informatics gives students the necessary knowledge, skills, and competence to design, plan, implement and evaluate the development of new health IT solutions to the benefit of people – nationally as well as internationally.

Qualifications
Tenure-Track Assistant Professor

As a successful applicant you should show an increasing publication trajectory in high-level international peer-reviewed venues in the area of specialization. Your research plans and publication records should illustrate a clear potential for development and attraction of external funding. Documented university-level experience in delivering high-quality undergraduate/graduate teaching is not mandatory but weighs positively in the application. If you do not already hold formal pedagogical qualifications, you will receive pedagogical training equivalent to the University of Copenhagen Teaching and Learning in Higher Education programme for Assistant Professors.

Associate Professor
The position requires a strong publication record in high-level international peer-reviewed venues in the area of specialization as well as a track record of successful external research funding. An active network of international collaborations will be considered a very important asset. You are expected to have university-level competencies in delivering high-quality undergraduate/graduate teaching and must be able to explain and reflect upon your own teaching practice and portfolio. You are expected to have formal pedagogical training or supervision equivalent to the University of Copenhagen Teaching and Learning in Higher Education programme. You are also expected to have managerial qualifications, for example in managing your own research group and performing outreach activities.

Full Professor
You are expected to have a significant publication record in high-level international peer-reviewed venues in the area of specialization, a solid track record of attracting significant external research funding, and an active international network of research collaborators. You are also required to have university-level competencies in delivering high-quality undergraduate/graduate teaching and must be able to explain and reflect upon your own teaching practice and portfolio, as well as participate in strategic teaching planning. You are expected to have formal pedagogical training or supervision equivalent to the University of Copenhagen Teaching and Learning in Higher Education programme. You are expected to have significant managerial qualifications, for instance, in positions of service to your institution or to the community, experience in leading a competitive research group, as well as outreach experience.

Terms of employment
The position is covered by the Memorandum on Job Structure for Academic Staff. Terms of appointment and payment accord to the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and The Danish Confederation of Professional Associations on Academics in the State.

Negotiation for salary supplement and relocation expenses is possible.

Denmark protects the economic, social, and physical well-being of its workers, which includes public health care, elder care, and other generous benefits. Work-life balance is ranked high, and all employees get six weeks of paid annual vacation. A standard work week in Denmark is 37 hours.

International applicants may be eligible to apply for a lower tax rate for 7 years under the Danish tax scheme for researchers.

The Tenure-Track Programme
If you are hired as Tenure-Track Assistant Professor, you will be assigned a mentor who will provide you with guidance related to your career development, academic topics, and administrative procedures.

Your progression will be followed via internal yearly evaluations and a mid-term and final international evaluation by an assessment committee. The mid-term evaluation typically takes place after three years of employment, and the final evaluation no later than after 6 years of employment. After the 6-year period, you are expected to meet the criteria for appointment of Associate Professors at the University of Copenhagen. Performance and progression towards the criteria will be evaluated with due consideration of differences between research fields. Upon a positive final appraisal, you will be promoted to Associate Professor, which is a permanent position.
