We are looking for
Postdoctoral fellow in machine learning with a focus on in vitro fertilization (IVF) at the Faculty of Technology and Society.

Work duties

  • Conduct cutting-edge research in machine learning (ML), with a focus on deep learning and on-device large language models (LLM) and optimization algorithms.
  • Collaborate with our team to transform research insights into practical and meaningful solutions.
  • Stay up-to-date on the latest advances in ML, transformers, graph networks, fine-tuning techniques, and inference and optimization.
  • Writing academic reports.
  • Deliver high-quality work at a fast pace, with an understanding of the importance of time and speed in a startup environment.

Qualifications
A postdoc is primarily employed to conduct research. They have completed a doctoral degree or a foreign degree considered on par with a doctoral degree. This is primarily relevant to people who have completed their doctoral degree no more than three years before the application period for the position of postdoc has expired. Under special circumstances, the doctoral degree may have been completed at an earlier date. Special circumstances constitute time off because of illness, parental leave, clinical practice, union duties or other similar circumstances.

In addition to formal competence, University employees must possess the personal capacities necessary to perform the duties of the position well and to represent the University in the best possible way.

Specific requirements for this position:

We are looking for a researcher with the following qualifications:

  • PhD in computer science or related subjects.
  • Strong understanding of machine learning algorithms, deep learning, and data analysis.
  • Hands-on experience developing and implementing ML infrastructure, with expertise in PyTorch or TensorFlow.
  • Deep understanding of systems engineering with a focus on building scalable solutions for large-scale data processing and model training.
  • Experience working with multimodal or visual models.
  • Experience working with optimization methods.
  • Good experience in writing academic reports.
  • Ability to communicate complex research results in a clear and impactful manner.
  • Talent to solve problems creatively and effectively.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently lead research projects with overall responsibility

The following would be of benefit for the position:

  • Previous experience working in the healthcare field, particularly in an in vitro fertilization (IVF) laboratory.
  • Knowledge of IVF procedures and data in IVF laboratories.

Assessment criteria
Accordning to the Appointment Rules at Malmö University, the assessment crieteria for a position as Postdoctor are:

  • The quality and focus of the doctoral thesis
  • Research activities within fields relevant to the appointment in question
  • Documented ability to independently conduct research of a sufficient standard
  • Reflective presentation of their own pedagogical outlook and practices
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate and collaborate with actors in other parts of society with a connection to education and research

Faculty, Department and Research environment
The Faculty of Technology and Society (TS), conducts education and research with a focus on technology and natural sciences, in close collaboration with industry and other social actors and higher education institutions. The two departments at the faculty are: Computer Science and Media Technology and Materials Science and Applied Mathematics. Link

The Department of Computer Science and Media Technology provides research-linked courses and study programmes at first-cycle and second-cycle level. The department conducts research in: Computer science, Information Systems, Software Engineering and Media and Communication Technology. Education and research are conducted in close collaboration with parties from both the private and public sectors. Link

Internet of Things and People (IoTaP) is a research centre that studies how people can get the most out of the Internet of Things. The work involves computer scientists, interaction designers, professionals and users. Through applied research, IoTaP addresses a range of current challenges in society within areas such as energy, transportation, health, learning and home automation. Link

Applicants who have not completed their doctoral degree at the end of the application period can apply provided that all requirements for a completed degree are met before the (intended) decision date for employment. The defense date and fulfilled requirements for the degree must be confirmed at the time of application by the applicant's main supervisor, director of studies or equivalent.

  • Degree certificate (alternatively certificate with the date of the thesis defense) and other relevant certificates
  • A brief account of research, teaching and other activities relevant to the position to which the application pertains, including a description of how the applicant envisions their future research and teaching
  • Doctoral dissertation

This is a full-time, fixed-term employment of two years. The period of employment is determined in accordance with the agreement “Avtal om tidsbegränsad anställning som postdoktor” (“Agreement on fixed-term employment as a post-doctoral fellow”) between Swedish Agency for Government Employers, SACO-S, OFR/S and SEKO, dated 1 February 2022.
