We are experiencing a rapid growth in the demand for our services in offshore wind markets all over the world and thus also an increased demand in our metocean services to support to the design, installation and operation for this industry. We are therefore expanding our Foundation Engineering Centre of Excellence, and we are currently looking for an experienced Metocean Engineer who can actively contribute to the development of our metocean services and support ongoing, design-oriented projects.
In this position, you will be based in one of our UK offices (Glasgow or Bristol) and you will report to our Head of Civil Engineering (based in Lisbon, Portugal).
What you’ll be doing:
Meteocean information is a key requirement for offshore renewable project development, from site identification to weather-limited operation planning, including critical input at the design stage. The metocean engineer tasks will cover a range of civil engineering activities, with a global remit (onshore and offshore projects), that may include the following:
- Carrying out metocean studies to produce data used for the design and/or assessment of fixed or floating offshore renewable energy structures.
- Creation of design basis (concept to detailed).
- Review of metocean reports to assess suitability, adherence to requirements / standards, provide recommendations.
- Preparation of ITT package for metocean analysis services and field measurement campaigns, including the definition of relevant sow / technical requirements / evaluation criteria.
- Support in ITT management, from evaluation of bidders to contract negotiation.
- Contribution to the strengthening of K2 Management’s in-house metocean capabilities, driving and developing fit-for-purpose metocean MATLAB-based tools, data management systems design tools and methods to achieve continuous improvement of the K2 Management offer.
About you:
- You hold a technical degree (Meng, MSc and / or PhD) in a relevant engineering discipline (preferentially Oceanography, Marine Engineering or related field), combined with minimum 5 years of professional experience from a similar position within the renewable industry.
- In-depth knowledge of the industry’s specificities and challenges, e.g. regarding requirements for wind farm construction and operation, fabrication limits and trends, development perspectives etc.
- Experience in metocean modelling, including the use of suitable numerical flow / wave propagation / related software packages (e.g. Mike 21, Telemac etc.).
- Excellent computer literacy, particularly in programming tools such as Matlab, Python.
- Knowledge of specialist topics e.g. typhoons / hurricanes analysis.
- Proven track record spanning several years of providing quality metocean advice and information to the offshore industry worldwide, on time and to budget.
- Experience in an engineering consultancy or contracting environment.
- Good organizational skills and a structured working approach
- High-quality writing skills, with preparation of clear, concise, client-ready engineering reports, while adhering to budgetary and time constraints
- Excellent communication skills in English, both verbally and in writing.
