We’re looking for an experienced Database Administrator to help us fine-tune and optimize our SaaS platform running on the latest version of SQL Server. With over 200,000 customers counting on us, your role will be key in ensuring everything runs smoothly and efficiently. The Scope of your role
At e-conomic, our database infrastructure is centered around a Microsoft SQL Server 2022 cluster, running on Windows, hosted in Google Cloud Platform (GCP) that is setup for high availability and resilience with regular backups. This instance is the focal point of our operations, supporting our SaaS platform.

In addition, we maintain SQL Servers for various test environments, PostgreSQL databases for production use, and MongoDB instances that, while less central to the DBA role, are also part of our team's responsibilities. This diverse database environment offers a dynamic and challenging landscape for our DBA who is embedded in our Site Reliability Engineering team.

Your team
The SRE team at e-conomic is the backbone of our SaaS infrastructure, ensuring the reliability and observability of the entire e-conomic product. This highly flexible and collaborative team, composed of 9 members located across Copenhagen, Finland, Romania, and Portugal, balances on-call duties with continuous improvements to both developer and production environments. The team also includes our resident DBA, who actively collaborates with the SRE team on various initiatives, enhancing the tools and systems that drive our product to ensure everything runs smoothly and efficiently.

About the broader Products department (R&D)
You will be joining our development organization Products (R&D) with +160 employees, primarily located in Denmark, Romania and Portugal, working with technologies like C#, Node.js, React, MS-SQL, Swift and MongoDB. We are a diverse group of +20 nationalities, including Developers, Product Managers, QA Engineers and UX Designers.

What you’ll be doing
You will be in the driver seat of managing our main production databases and its various test instances. The main focus is to assure reliability, auditability, as well as our RTO at 12 hours and RPO of 10 minutes.

• Manage and Optimize Databases
  Oversee the performance, scalability, and security of our SQL Server databases to ensure they meet the demands of our SaaS-based accounting platform.
• Monitor and Tune Systems
  Continuously monitor database performance, identify bottlenecks, and implement tuning strategies to enhance system efficiency.
• Optimize Queries
  Analyze and optimize SQL queries to improve response times and overall database performance.
• Ensure High Availability
  Implement and manage strategies for database backup, recovery, and failover to maintain high availability and minimize downtime.
• Support Feature Implementations
  Collaborate with development teams to design and implement efficient database schemas, ensuring smooth integration of new features.
• Maintain Data Integrity
  Enforce data integrity rules and best practices to ensure the accuracy and consistency of stored data.
• Drive Continuous Improvement
  Contribute to ongoing improvements by exploring new technologies, tools, and methods to enhance the stability and performance of our systems.

We hope your skills include
Technical Skills

• SQL Server Expertise
  Deep knowledge of MS SQL Server, particularly SQL Server 2022, including performance tuning, query optimization, and high availability configurations (e.g., Always On Availability Groups).
• Database Administration (at least 3 years professional experience)
  Strong skills in backup and recovery, data integrity enforcement, and database security best practices.
• Scripting and Automation
  Proficiency in scripting languages like PowerShell or T-SQL for automating database maintenance and deployment tasks.
• Monitoring and Troubleshooting
  Experience with database monitoring tools and the ability to troubleshoot performance issues, ensuring optimal database operation.
• Cloud Experience
  Proficiency in managing databases hosted on cloud platforms, particularly Google Cloud Platform (GCP), with a focus on scalability, security, and resilience.
• Experience in a SaaS Environment
  Understanding of the unique challenges and opportunities in a SaaS-based platform, especially regarding database scalability and performance.

  Ability to work effectively within cross-functional teams, including close collaboration with SRE, BI, and Product teams.
• Problem-Solving
  Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to diagnose and resolve complex database issues.
• Adaptability
  Flexibility to work in a dynamic environment, handling both operational tasks and long-term projects.
• Communication
  Clear and effective communication skills to explain technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Additional Database Technologies are a plus

• PostgreSQL and MongoDB
  Familiarity with PostgreSQL and MongoDB, including basic administration, as these technologies are part of our broader database landscape.

1. Initial screening

2. First interview
Meet Anna Moser, Hiring Manager, and Sayali Patin, Database Administrator and SRE. This interview will be around 60 min. In person.

3. Second interview
Dive deeper into the role with two of our more more senior technical engineers, for around 75 min. Prior to the interview you'll prepare for a case discussion.

4. Third interview
This will be the final interview, where you'll meet two more people from the team as well as discussing a personality test feedback. Prior to the interview you'll prepare a psychological test.
