ABOUT THE JOB
The Humanitarian Disarmament and Peacebuilding (HDP) (formerly known as the Danish Demining Group DDG) sector within DRC Afghanistan, was established in Kandahar in 1998, expanding its scope and coverage in Central, Northern and Eastern regions of Afghanistan by May 2000. HDP has trained a large number of professional Afghan national mine action personnel across a wide range of disciplines and has built a solid reputation as an implementing partner (IP) of Mine Action Programme of Afghanistan (MAPA) with a strong focus on integrated activities as well as quality and safety.

In addition to Mine Action activities, DRC HDP focuses on community safety programming. DRC strives to identify safety and security needs from the perspective of those living in conflict areas and to help them find non-violent solutions. These include community engagement and violence reduction, programming that specifically seeks to engage communities in addressing social cohesion and local safety and security challenges. From February 2017 to March 2019, DRC implemented Peacebuilding activities in the form of Community Safety Planning, Conflict Mediation trainings and Youth Campaigns in Kabul and Herat.DRC HDP is looking for dedicated Community Engagement Officer’s under the direct supervision of Community Engagement Team leader (CE TL), is primarily responsible for organizing and providing conflict mediation trainings, community safety planning, youth empowerment activities and supporting in the data collection for conflict analysis to project beneficiaries and targeted communities and follow-up coaching.

Responsibilities:

  • Organize and conduct trainings and workshops on community safety, alternative dispute resolution, social cohesion initiatives, and youth engagement
  • Support to designing and/or updating training methodology, content, and materials.
  • Maintaining regular communication with community leaders (ARBAB), particularly women and youths on humanitarian disarmament & peacebuilding unit activities.
  • Working closely with DRC Officers for arranging, conducting and following up on training and other activities.
  • Assist the community leaders for updating information on community safety, mediation and youth engagement.
  • Ensure follow-up and support to communities in relation to the key activities
  • Establishing and maintaining linkages among relevant stakeholders.
  • Support the CE Specialist to generate qualitative and quantitative data to document milestones of project progress and submit weekly, monthly and quarterly updates as required.
  • Assist the CE Specialist in conducting regular analysis, monitoring and reporting.
  • Keep the CE Specialist updated on the progress of the activities and any issues that may arise during the course of the implementation that need senior officers’ attendees.
  • Update the Area Manager on any information related to security.
  • Collect and compile villages/district data and information into agreed system, including performing quality checks to ensure information is correct and adequate.
  • Any other tasks assigned by the Area Manager and CE Specialist.

ABOUT YOU
To be successful in this role you must have:

Experience and technical competencies:

  • At least 3 years of work experience in conflict mediation, community safety, youth engagement or other relevant area.
  • Experience in facilitating third party mediation training.
  • Strong analytical and technical skills on community safety and conflict mediation.
  • Knowledge of and experience working with IDPs/returnees in Afghanistan.
  • Ability to clearly express one’s thoughts, to analyze and present information clearly and concisely.
  • Ability to set priorities and to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Political and cultural sensitivity, as well as a diplomatic, tactful, and flexible interpersonal style.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills.

Education/qualifications:

  • University degree in Social Sciences, Political law or any other relevant degree
  • Qualified females are strongly encouraged to apply..

Languages:

  • Good knowledge of English
  • Fluency in Pashto and Dari
