Postdoc on Experiment and Theory of Subwavelength Dielectric Nanostructures and Devices – DTU Electro

Danmarks Tekniske Universitet (DTU)

We invite applications for a Postdoctoral position in Nanophotonics, funded by a Villum Young Investigator Grant, to work on new nanophotonic devices reducing the size and energy of integrated circuits. Responsibilities include experimental characterization, theory, and design. Apply if you have a PhD in Physics, Photonics, or related fields.
We invite applications for a Postdoctoral position within the field of Nanophotonics, funded by a Villum Young Investigator Grant. This position offers an opportunity to delve into the experimental and theoretical aspects of a new class of nanophotonic devices based on subwavelength dielectric nanostructures. These advancements aim to significantly reduce the size and energy consumption of integrated circuits, potentially revolutionizing computing paradigms.

The Villum Young Investigator project is dedicated to the advancement of theory, design, fabrication, and characterization of unexplored nanophotonic devices. The project closely aligns with the efforts of the Quantum and Laser Photonics Group and the Nanophoton Center (https://nanophoton.dtu.dk). The current call aims to bolster our experimental and theoretical activities on active devices, such as nanolasers. The successful candidate will be part of a dynamic team of researchers, fostering a culture of strong theoretical-experimental interaction, independent thinking, and collaborative spirit.

Responsibilities and qualifications
The Postdoctoral researcher will be actively involved in both experimental characterization and theory & design. Key responsibilities include:

  • Laser characterization: Performing advanced experiments on optically/electrically pumped nanolasers. Utilizing advanced measurement techniques to gain insights into their performance and properties.
  • Pump-probe spectroscopy: Leading pump-probe spectroscopy experiments on nanolasers and associated optoelectronic devices to explore their dynamic properties, which is crucial for understanding and improving their modulation speed and data capacity in chip-scale computing.
  • Theory and design: Engaging in theoretical analysis of experimental data and numerical design of the devices and preparing lithography masks for their fabrication. The devices will be fabricated by our colleagues in DTU’s state-of-the-art cleanroom: DTU-NanoLab.
  • Lab support: Assisting in the maintenance of laboratory facilities including the OPO and femtosecond laser systems. The role also involves advancing the efficiency and accuracy of experimental setups through automation and programming using tools such as MATLAB, Python, or LabVIEW.

Your qualifications:
We are looking for a talented researcher with strong expertise in nanophotonics and a proactive approach to both experimental and theoretical physics. The ideal candidate will meet the following qualifications:

  • A PhD degree or equivalent in Physics, Photonics, or Optoelectronics.
  • A strong background and interest in nanophotonic devices, with specialized hands-on experience in nanophotonic device characterizations.
  • Proficiency in programming and data analysis.
  • Good understanding of one or more theoretical frameworks or approaches, including laser physics, quantum optics, nonlinear optics, etc.
  • Excellent communication skills in English, both written and verbal.
