Your role and responsibilities
As data becomes increasingly valuable, cybercriminals are constantly seeking new ways to compromise it. One challenge with beginner-level AI is that hackers can exploit these systems to access sensitive information. This creates a pressing need for innovative interactive technologies that can help identify and report common types of attacks in a way that is easily understood by those outside the cybersecurity field. Research indicates that many security risks stem from human factors, with some studies showing that up to 95% of successful cyberattacks are due to human error. To effectively identify and eliminate cybersecurity threats, it’s essential to explore human behaviors, needs, and understanding of these threats. As technology becomes more advanced, it's crucial that we empower individuals to recognize and counteract potential cyber-attacks. This master’s thesis will focus on investigating and identifying the human factors that contribute to increased risks when defending against cyber threats. We invite you to take on this important challenge and contribute to essential research aimed at developing user-friendly and robust cybersecurity solutions. Details: • Spring 2025, commonly between Jan-July • 30 ECTS/högskolepoäng(hp) • 1-2 students • In Västerås. Possibility for hybrid workplace Your responsibilities: • Determine specific aspects of UX in cybersecurity you want to explore (e.g., user behaviors, understanding of threats) • Analyze previous research on UX in cybersecurity and look for areas where user experience can be improved or where current solutions fall short • Conduct competitor analysis on existing cyber security solutions with focus on UX aspects • Generate ideas for UX improvements that address the identified challenges and generate interactive prototypes • Formulate guidelines for user friendly Cyber security design

Qualifications for the role

• Currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), Cognitive Science, Interaction Design, User Experience (UX), or a related field
• Ability to conduct user research and translate insights into design improvements for complex systems
• Familiarity with UX/UI design principles
• Interest in how user interaction can influence cyber security and human behavior in industrial environments
• Basic knowledge of cyber security and how to present complex data intuitively
• Problem-solving abilities, with the capacity to think holistically about both human aspects and cyber threats
• Able to approach challenges creatively, integrating user-centered approaches with technological advancements
