The stipend is open for appointment from 1 January 2025 or soon thereafter. The Department of Architecture, Design, and Media Technology has as its goal the development of an innovative cluster of engineering-based environments for education and research which integrate creativity, engineering, and technology within the disciplines of architecture, urban design, industrial design, digital design and interactive media. The department is a leading research and educational environment in Denmark that addresses the challenge of the interplay between creativity and technology and develops new areas in research and education directed towards the end-user.

Jobbeskrivelse
The PhD project is part of the Horizon Europe granted research project "Art of Darkness as Cultural Heritage for Urban Landscape". The research project investigates how to preserve and develop cultural heritage sites throughout Europe with a better understanding of the cultural, aesthetic, and sustainability values of darkness, which are important to the well-being of humans and nature. An Art of Darkness piloting model is developed according to the New European Bauhaus strategy. Through 5 pilot tests in 5 European cities, design solutions and strategies for more sustainable, aesthetic and socially feasible dark-time experiences are tested and developed in a co-design collaboration with local stakeholders.

The main tasks within this PhD project are:

  • Participate in developing the theoretical framework and exploration of methods for testing
  • Participate in the development of the pilot trial co-design concept, the pilot trial production and the process and influence evaluation in the pilot trial test site in Copenhagen
  • Participate in conducting workshops with local citizens and stakeholders
  • Participate in conducting field studies(observations and interviews) on human experience of cultural heritage in different lighting/darkness situations
  • Participate in conducting both quantitative and qualitative evaluations of human experiences of cultural heritage in different lighting/darkness situations

The research questions, methodology, and project plan for the PhD-project will be developed through supervision by Assistant Professor Mette Hvass and Associate Professor Georgios Triantafyllidis.
