Our purpose points the way
In Novonesis, we know that solutions rooted in biology can help solve humanity’s biggest challenges. Since we began more than a century ago, this has been our guide. It’s how we've gotten so far. And it’s how we'll impact the future. Now, more than ever, the world needs change. And with biosolutions, the possibilities for transformation are endless.

We’re here to better our world with biology.

Join us as our new research scientist!
We are looking for an analytical scientist with high interest in data science and chemical analysis.

At Novonesis, you contribute every single day to a more sustainable future based on biological solutions. Novonesis develops and produces, among other things, bacterial cultures for yogurt and cheese, probiotics for food supplements, and new microbiological solutions to extend the shelf life of products. Explorative Biochemical Analytics is part of the R&D organization in Novonesis. Our analysis work is carried out in collaboration with various business areas such as Enzymes, Dairy, Cheese, Plantbased dairy alternatives, Bioprotection, Human, Animal and Plant Health.

Welcome to Explorative Biochemical Analytics
Explorative Biochemical Analytics develops biochemical methods of analysis and provides qualitative and quantitative data of small molecules, peptides, proteins and polysaccharides in biological matrices for use in projects and product development. We primarily use liquid chromatography as separation technique and mass spectrometry, UV, infrared spectroscopy, and light scattering for detection. We are active in many projects to accelerate mode of action understanding and to improve the chemical characterization of existing and future enzymatic and microbial products.

Explorative Biochemical Analytics is a multinational department where we emphasize good collaboration, room for all of us, and where we help each other. We value the good communication between researchers, laboratory technicians and students. We work closely together to solve our tasks.

In this role you will make a difference by;
As our new research scientist your daily work will be a combination of optimizing digital workflows, supporting our local data capture systems and hands-on-work in the analytical laboratory analyzing samples, troubleshooting, build new methods, data analysis, visualization of the results and project interaction.

Your role will be dual and you will work with data science by programming and optimization of our digital data workflows as well as working in the laboratory with analytical chemistry and biochemistry. We expect you to work in close collaboration with our sister department, Core Biochemical Analytics, especially on the data science part.

Your tasks will include:

  • Maintenance and optimization of LIMS and digital workflows
  • Sample analysis and method development with qualitative and quantitative methods by FT-IR. Potentially also microfluidic capillary electrophoresis (LabChip) or high resolution-MS-MALDI to support new product development
  • Optimize sample extraction procedures for various complex matrices such as dairy and bacterial fermentations
  • Use advanced data analytical tools to extract information from the data generated to visualize and communicate results
  • Coordinate with internal stakeholders and other departments. Communicate the results generated within different projects to ensure aligned interpretation of results and best experimental praxis

To succeed in this position, you must hold;
Preferably you hold a PhD or have similar experiences and have worked a few years with analytical chemistry or biochemistry. Natural flair and interest in data handling is a must. Experience with macromolecule chemistry such as proteins and carbohydrates together with hands-on instrument troubleshooting and method development is an advantage.

You are a superior team player, good at communicating with colleagues in the laboratory as well as with collaborators outside the team. You are fluent in both spoken and written English, you have a flexible mindset, and thrive with changing tasks and expertise areas.

Further, you preferably have:

  • 2 to 5 years work experience
  • Practical experience using Python, R, SASJMP, Sample Manager and/or Benchling
  • Hands-on experience using FT-IR and multivariate analysis
  • Hand-on experience with one or more of following technologies; LabChip, HR-MS-MALDI, AF4-MALS, LC, GC, IC and MS systems
  • Experience in sample purification of small molecules or macromolecules from complex matrices

We do not expect you to have all of the above-mentioned skills, but we look forward to hearing from you if you have experience with some of these.

Could our purpose be yours? Then apply today!

Application deadline: November 1st, 2024. We will screen in-coming applications and invite for interviews continuously during the application period, so please apply as soon as possible.
