DanChurchAid is looking for a visionary Head of HR

Folkekirkens Nødhjælp

DanChurchAid (Folkekirkens Nødhjælp) is looking for an experienced and visionary Head of Human Resources to join our dynamic team. Reporting directly to the Director for Finance and Operations and working closely with the entire Senior Management, you will lead, manage, and support an HR team of 10 staff members while playing a key role in driving larger organisational initiatives. The role will be dual-faceted: on one hand, you will manage the essential HR operations that support our head office and 19 country offices across Africa, Asia, Europe, and the Middle East. On the other hand, you will - in close cooperation with the Secretary General - drive strategic organisational-wide initiatives and processes, enhance staff welfare, diversity, inclusion, equality and belonging, competence- and organisational development, and leadership across the organisation. This to ensure that DCA can respond adequately and with agility in its operations, structures and systems.

DanChurchAid is one of Denmark's largest and most professional humanitarian organisations, reaching about 5 million people annually through our global disaster and development work. We employ more than 1,200 staff across 19 country offices and manage an annual budget of approximately 1 billion DKK. We are deeply rooted in Denmark, with over 10,000 volunteers across the country. DanChurchAid works to help the world's poorest and most vulnerable people, and you will play a key role in supporting this work.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and Manage the HR Unit: Provide leadership, guidance, and mentorship to the HR team, fostering a collaborative and high-performing work environment. Ensure that all HR functions, including recruitment, employee relations, payroll, and compliance, are executed efficiently and effectively.
  • Support to the Secretary General and the Senior Management: Collaborate closely with Senior Management on cross-organisational initiatives, including but not limited to, organisational development, structural changes, and policy updates. Act as a strategic partner to the Director for Finance and Operations and the Senior Management.
  • Drive Staff Welfare and Motivation: Develop and implement initiatives that enhance employee welfare, motivation, and engagement. Champion a positive organisational culture that promotes mental health, well-being, and work-life balance.
  • Champion Diversity, Inclusion, Equality and Belonging: Lead efforts to strengthen our organisation's commitment to diversity, inclusion, equality and belonging. Design and implement initiatives and programs that ensure a diverse and inclusive workplace, aligned with our core values including active participation in the organisation's complaints committee and advising on handling specific complaints and whistleblowing cases.
  • Competence Development: Ensure that staff across the organisation have access to relevant professional development opportunities. Support the creation of tailored training programs that enhance skills, knowledge, and career progression.
  • Organisational Development: Contribute to and lead key organisational development projects, ensuring that structural changes and process improvements are aligned with DCA’s mission, vision, and strategic goals so that the organisation remains Fit for Purpose.

What We Are Looking For:

  • Leadership and HR Expertise: A seasoned HR professional with a strong track record of leading HR teams in a similar context. You have experience managing HR operations while also contributing to broader organisational strategies.
  • Strategic Thinker and Implementer: You think strategically and translate ideas into actionable plans. You easily acquire new skills and learn from experiences. You are comfortable navigating complex organisational challenges and driving change.
  • Passion for People: You have a deep commitment to fostering a positive, inclusive, and supportive work environment. You are passionate about employee welfare, development, and engagement.
  • Collaborative and Influential: You are a skilled communicator and relationship builder who can influence and collaborate effectively with stakeholders at all levels, including Senior Management.
  • Cultural Sensitivity and Commitment to Inclusion: You bring a strong commitment to diversity, inclusion, equality and belonging, with a proven ability to develop initiatives and programs that reflect these values.
  • Change Agent: You are excited about the opportunity to lead and support organisational development initiatives, ensuring that DanChurchAid remains agile, adaptive, and resilient in a constantly changing environment also in times where existing policies and procedures provides limited guidance.

Qualifications:

  • A degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Organisational Development, or a related field.
  • A minimum of 5-10 years of experience in HR leadership roles – preferable from an organisation/company with offices/operations across several countries.
  • Demonstrated experience in organisational development and leading cross-functional projects.
  • Strong understanding of Danish labour laws and HR best practices.
  • Fluency in Danish and English. Knowledge of French is an asset, but not a requirement.
