Bioinformatician for patient diagnostics at Genomic Medicine, Rigshospitalet

Region Hovedstaden

The Department of Genomic Medicine at Rigshospitalet is looking for a bioinformatician or computational scientist to join our bioinformatics group. The bioinformatics group develops, maintains, and operates advanced computational pipelines for the analyses of patient genomes and transcriptomes.

The Department of Genomic Medicine holds a combined high-throughput DNA/RNA sequencing and bioinformatics platform, that offers a wide-range of genomic and transcriptomic analyses, including human whole-genome sequencing, to hospitals in Region Hovedstaden and Region Sjælland. As part of the Danish National Genome Center, we further participate and contribute with sequencing, bioinformatics, and quality assessment for the national genome sequencing initiative.

As part of the bioinformatics group, you will be responsible for developing, maintaining, and operating computational pipelines for the support of diagnosis of patients at clinical departments. Accordingly, responsibilities will range from development of workflows and data infrastructure, and daily surveillance of automated data analysis workflows, as well and to contributing to publications within the field of clinical bioinformatics.

We offer a stimulating environment where medical doctors, biologists, and bioinformaticians work together to deliver high-quality precision medicine and research. Moreover, there will be a unique opportunity to work with bioinformatics and computing tools on large volumes of real clinical data. Our work has direct implications for diagnosis of patient diagnosis, leading to better treatment for a variety of both rare and common genetic diseases, infections, and cancer. We are a highly integrated team of almost 20 bioinformaticians and our deliverables are all team efforts.

Our work is primarily focused on processing and analysis of DNA sequencing data. We use SnakeMake for the orchestration of a large variety of bioinformatics tools on a supercomputing infrastructure. Previous experience with this, or comparable work, or aspects thereof, is an advantage, and the same goes for understanding of molecular biology.

Qualifications:

  • A degree in bioinformatics, computer science and biology, biotechnology, software engineering, biological data science, or equivalent.
  • Proficiency in general in scripting and programming languages, including working knowledge of Python. Proficiency with Linux-based operating systems and shell scripting.
  • Experience with version control using Git.
  • Fluency in English, both written and spoken.
  • Proven experience with working with sequencing data is a plus.
  • PhD in bioinformatics, genomics, or clinical data science is a plus
  • You like to work in a team and are motivated by working in an interdisciplinary environment.

The application should comprise the following, to be uploaded in the application system:

    • A very brief introductory letter outlining how you see yourself as part of the bioinformatics group, with examples from past and present research and development activities, or contributions to other larger bioinformatics projects.
    • A curriculum vitae that includes by
      1. Full publication list (if relevant)
      2. Link to git repository, or an example of some code that you have developed or co-developed (university projects are just fine). If this is not possible, please describe in some detail your coding experience and contributions to collaborative development projects.
      3. Master level transcripts
Application deadline is October 31st, 2024 at noon. The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with relevant union. The place of work is Rigshospitalet, Blegdamsvej 9, 2100 Copenhagen.

The position is limited to a period of 1 (one) year with a possibility for an extension.
