Description
Head of the Technology and Products Division in the Systems, Strategic Programme Lines and Technology Department, Directorate of Connectivity and Secure Communications (D/CSC).

Duties
Reporting to the Head of the Systems, Strategic Programme Lines and Technology Department, you will be responsible for:

• management of the ARTES Core Competitiveness Generic Programme Line, which is dedicated to the development, qualification and demonstration of products (Competitiveness and Growth) and long-term technology developments (Advanced Technology). Products relate to the space segment domain, the ground segment domain or an end-to-end telecommunications system integrating a network with its space segment;
• coordination of the development of non-generic satellite technologies and products under the ARTES Core Competitiveness (CC) Programme Line relating to the implementation of projects under the responsibility of the Satellite Programmes Department (CSC-P) and which are delegated to CSC-P;
• management and implementation of the activities funded by ARTES CC, as well as the implementation of the activities funded by the Strategic Programme Lines under the ARTES CC Implementing Rules;
• management of the ESA team, covering space segment and ground segment activities;
• provision of engineering support to telecommunications projects and activities, with an emphasis on the adoption of innovative and disruptive technologies in the satellite communication domain;
• coordination of the ARTES Core Competitiveness Programme Line with the other R&D programmes of the Agency;
• coordination of the technical support provided by other ESA Directorates and ESA’s Security Office in collaboration with the D/CSC Business Control and Programme Management Support Office.

You will also be responsible for identifying, assessing, managing and reporting the health and safety risks in your area of responsibility.

Technical competencies
Knowledge of satellite telecommunications research and development activities

Knowledge of the satellite telecommunications market and related space industry

Knowledge of business case analysis and evaluation

Multidisciplinary and comprehensive knowledge of satellite technology in the satellite, ground and system domains

Experience of interacting with the space industry, ESA Member State delegations and stakeholders

Knowledge of procurement processes and rules

Education
A master’s degree in an engineering discipline is required for this post.

• the ability to drive performance and foster cooperation within and across teams throughout the organisation;
