ADVISER ON BUSINESS AND HUMAN RIGHTS

You will be based in the Human Rights, Business & Tech Department at the Danish Institute for Human Rights (the Institute) based in Copenhagen. The department works to foster responsible business conduct by working with state actors, businesses and financial institutions, rightsholders affected by business operations, and other relevant stakeholders.
You will be part of an ambitious and dedicated department and join the global policy and partnerships team within the department as one of our advisers. You will be part of supporting the team’s efforts to advance human rights in the context of the EU’s corporate sustainability agenda as well as contribute to developing the department’s approaches and strategies.
ABOUT THE POSITION
As an adviser you will:
- Develop analyses of legal and policy developments relating to responsible business conduct and their effects on business conduct globally with a primary focus on the implementation of the EU Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive and Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive and their interactions with other relevant policy and legal instruments such as EU sustainable finance regulation
- Draft policy submissions, organise events and engage in policy dialogues with private and public actors
- Develop training and communication materials on legal and policy instruments
- Support projects with state institutions and other actors at national level or business and financial actors focusing on ensuring alignment with the UNGPs when implementing new policies and regulation
- Support management of projects (including reporting and financial administration) and seek and develop new project opportunities.
YOUR BACKGROUND
- Master’s level qualification in a relevant field (e.g. law, human rights, political science) and in-depth knowledge of international human rights law and systems;
- A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience;
- Good understanding of legal and policy developments in relation to business and human rights at EU level, experience of policy work and/or legal practice is beneficial;
- Experience with implementation of human rights and environmental due diligence processes and/or human rights impact assessment in a business, financial, or legal context is desirable;
- Strong communication skills and experienced speaker. Comfortable in engaging with a variety of stakeholders at different levels and good at building relationships;
- Experience in project management including financial administration of projects, monitoring and evaluation, fundraising and relations with donors is a strong asset;
- Excellent command of English (working language). Fluency in Danish is an asset. Additional working language is appreciated.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
The position is full-time based in Copenhagen with some international travel, with a weekly average of 37 hours. Starting date as soon as possible.
The salary and other conditions will be determined in accordance with the Danish Ministry of Finance’s agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations with the possibility to negotiate individual supplements.
