Senior SQL Database Architect / Lead DBA

Are you an experienced Microsoft SQL expert eager to play a key role in optimizing database performance and ensuring operational excellence within a leading FinTech company? Equities, Funds and Savings are seeking a Senior SQL Database Architect / Lead DBA to support our teams in building, maintaining and troubleshooting high-performance databases that is the heart of our core investment process platforms. Our offering, taking a leading market position in the Nordic financial sector, serves most of the large banks. This role focuses on strategic oversight, while also involving hands-on troubleshooting and critical DBA tasks.

As the Senior SQL Database Architect / Lead DBA, you will work closely with development teams and our Lead Architect to ensure our databases are optimized, scalable, and reliable. Your role will span from shaping the overall database strategy to establishing critical database routines and processes. When needed, you’ll also engage in hands-on troubleshooting to resolve complex issues and ensure smooth operations. Additionally, you will be involved in DBA tasks such as performance tuning, monitoring, backup routines and disaster recovery planning.

Responsibilities:

• Database Optimization & Strategy: Guide teams in database design, query optimization, indexing and best practices to ensure top-tier performance and efficiency.
• Hands-On Troubleshooting & Problem Solving: Engage in hands-on troubleshooting and problem resolution when critical database issues arise, ensuring minimal downtime and quick recovery.
• Routine DBA Tasks: Plan, guide and perform essential DBA tasks together with operations team such as database performance tuning, monitoring, maintenance, backups, and restore, ensuring operational efficiency and data security.
• Redundancy & Recovery Planning: Implement and maintain strong disaster recovery and redundancy models to ensure data protection and 100% uptime.
• Monitoring & Proactive Issue Detection: Establish and maintain monitoring systems to identify performance bottlenecks and potential issues before they impact operations.
• Cloud Transition & Scalability: Support the transition to cloud-based databases, ensuring systems are scalable, secure and cost-effective.
• Routine Establishment & Documentation: Define and document operational routines, best practices and processes to ensure efficient database management and a standardised approach across the team.
• Operational Support & Collaboration: Work closely with the operations and development teams to maintain a robust database environment that supports our SaaS platform.

Qualifications:

• SQL Expertise: 8+ years of experience in SQL Server environments, with a deep understanding of database architecture, performance tuning, disaster recovery, and high-availability solutions.
• Hands-On Troubleshooting experience: Proven track record of resolving critical database issues, with the ability to jump into complex problem-solving when necessary.
• DBA Skills: Proficiency in executing DBA tasks, including backups, indexing, query tuning, monitoring, and database maintenance routines.
• Cloud & SaaS knowledge: Experience with cloud database platforms such as Azure and running databases in a SaaS model.
• Redundancy & Recovery expertise: Strong skills in designing and maintaining robust disaster recovery and failover strategies.
• Monitoring & Automation: Experience in implementing real-time database monitoring systems to detect and resolve potential issues proactively.
• Collaborative mindset: Ability to work effectively with developers, operations teams, and the Lead Architect to ensure seamless database operations and alignment with business goals.
• Financial sector experience: Experience working in regulated industries, such as financial services, is an advantage.
