Assistant Professor in RNA Biology

Applications are invited for a 2-year position as Assistant Professor in RNA Biology at the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics, Aarhus University, Denmark.

Expected start date and duration of employment
This is a 2-year position from 1st of April 2025 or as soon as possible thereafter.

Job description
Your general tasks will consist of:

  • Independent research of high international quality, including publication.
  • Teaching, guidance and examination of Bachelor’s and Master's degree students, as well as possibly co-supervision of PhD students.
  • Contribution to external research funding.
  • Development of national and international networks and collaborations in research.

Your specific tasks will consist of developing a research project within the field of nuclear RNA biology.

Your profile
Applicants should hold a PhD in Molecular Biology or similar. We are looking for a candidate with an interest in the biogenesis and turnover of nuclear RNA and its relationship to gene expression regulation in mammalian cells. Experience with RNA detection and protein-protein interaction assays will be preferred.

Who we are
The Jensen laboratory consists of a dynamic mix of experimental and computational biologists aiming to examine the production, turnover and possible functional impact of eukaryotic transcriptomes. Situated in a newly renovated laboratory complex within the central campus of Aarhus University, The Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics comprises a vibrant research and education environment. The department currently has 75 full time scientific staff, 95 PhD students and a yearly uptake of around 120 students housed in the same building ensuring a lively setting.

The department has access to state-of-the-art core facilities, including FACS, Bioimaging, CryoEM and Biophysics cores.

Deadline
Applications must be received no later than 15/1/2025.

Application procedure
Shortlisting is used. This means that after the deadline for applications – and with the assistance from the assessment committee chairman, and the assessment committee if necessary, – the head of department selects the candidates to be evaluated. The selection is made on the basis of an assessment of who of the candidates are most relevant considering the requirements of the advertisement. All applicants will be notified within 6 weeks whether or not their applications have been sent to an expert assessment committee for evaluation. The selected applicants will be informed about the composition of the committee and will receive his/her assessment. Once the recruitment process is completed a final letter of rejection is sent to the deselected applicants.

Formalities and salary range
Natural Sciences refers to the Ministerial Order on the Appointment of Academic Staff at Danish Universities under the Danish Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation.

The application must be in English and include a curriculum vitae, degree certificate, a complete list of publications, a statement of future research plans and information about research activities, teaching portfolio and verified information on previous teaching experience (if any). Appointment shall be in accordance with the collective labour agreement between the Danish Ministry of Taxation and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. Salary depends on seniority as agreed between the Danish Ministry of Taxation and the Confederation of Professional Associations.
