The Challenge:
The Manager, Systems Engineering is responsible for planning, organizing, and directing all Systems Engineering activities within the development, operations, production, and maintenance environments to meet company objectives. The role provides the leadership required to direct the work of Systems Engineering resources to execute and deliver assigned programs.
Job Requirements:
- Directs the development, production, operations, quality testing, and maintenance of Systems Engineering work products to execute assigned programs.
- Partners closely with other functions and serves as a focal point for the coordination of work activities between Program Management and Engineering.
- Analyzes forecasts and associated demand planning tools to prepare and provide the appropriate level of Systems Engineering support from a workload and resource perspective.
- Evaluates and provides feedback pertaining to product specifications.
- Reviews concepts for new products. Evaluates, recommends, and reviews product design changes.
- Develops Engineering Schedule(s) to meet customer requirements as specified.
- Manages and monitors actions required to meet the technical needs of customers.
- Ensures valid test plans are implemented and executed.
- Provides direct leadership to a team of System Engineering resources.
- Selects, develops, supports, and manages the performance of team members. Provides direction, clear expectations, feedback, and coaching. Completes regular performance reviews.
- Conducts Engineering Status Meetings to review workload, scope changes, status, progress, and deliverables.
- Communicates the status of projects, potential risks, issues, and/or impediments to higher management levels. Provides recommendations and plans of action to mitigate negative impacts.
- Evaluates process and makes recommendations to implement procedural improvements.
- Ensures all internal and external customer requirements are delivered in an efficient and timely manner.
- All other responsibilities as assigned.
Other Requirements:
- Work with Integrated Product Teams, customers and end users to understand and document requirements compliance
- Report metrics used to support systems engineering efforts
- Report status to management
Qualifications:
Minimum Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree in related field plus a minimum of 10 years of related experience with 3 years’ experience managing others OR equivalent experience
Required Skills and Experience:
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Defense (DOD) Security Clearance
- Knowledge of EW systems and performance.
- Ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team environment
- Ability to work with international team members.
- Ability to communicate in small working groups or program teams.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with customers as well as with team members in remote locations
- Experience with hardware interfaces and software in a multi-system environment.
- Strong oral and written communication skills, ability to write clear, concise, factual and detailed documentation
- Systems thinking skills (i.e., ability to work at detailed level but understand system level implications).
- Willingness to travel: 10% CONUS and OCONUS.
Preferred Skills and Experience:
- Master’s Degree in related field (Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Software Engineering or other applicable Engineering degree)
