The European Spallation Source is one of the largest science and technology infrastructure projects being built today. The project includes the most powerful linear proton accelerator ever built, a five-tonne, helium-cooled tungsten target wheel, 15 state-of-the-art neutron instruments, a suite of laboratories, and a supercomputing data management and software development center. In the context of its history and future as a scientific organisation, however, it is more than the sum of its parts. It is a brand-new Big Science organisation and we are building it from the ground up.

About the role:
We are seeking a dedicated IT Support Technician to join our IT Operations & Support Group within our IT division, whose primary responsibility is to maintain, enhance, and guide the IT platform to align with the evolving needs of our projects. Our mission is to ensure the availability of a stable and accessible IT infrastructure, with the IT helpdesk committed to delivering high-quality service and support.

In this role, you will be responsible for providing technical assistance to colleagues and project collaborators. This includes addressing inquiries and resolving computer-related issues, whether in person, via telephone, or through remote connections. Your duties will encompass assisting users with various aspects of computer hardware and software, including printing, installation, word processing, email and operating systems. Additionally, you may be tasked with educating users on the software and computer applications commonly utilized within our environment and creating instructional materials, such as user guides.

As part of your position, you will according to schedule, staffing the IT Helpdesk, managing incident reporting and fulfilling requests related to IT operations and support services and be placing and receiving order for essential IT equipment, software and materials. Further, you will be main responsible for purchasing for the entire IT Division and you will contribute to our knowledge management by writing and updating user guides in the form of knowledge base articles and how-to documents.

This is a full-time, permanent position with 6 months´ probationary period based at the ESS Campus in Lund, Sweden.

About you:
To thrive with us in the IT division, you need to be a highly motivated, driven and responsive person. You possess strong problem-solving skills and demonstrate keen ability to analyze issues and develop effective solutions.

A customer-focused mindset is vital for this position, as you (together with your colleagues) will be the face of the IT help desk, providing support to users with a curious and understanding approach. The ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and adapt to changing circumstances is also crucial, as IT support often requires flexibility and teamwork to resolve issues efficiently.

Furthermore, you have a degree in Information Technology, Information Systems, Computer science and other related field. You demonstrate strong organizational skills and attention to detail, ensuring that all tasks, from incident management to documentation, are completed accurately and thoroughly. You have a proactive attitude towards learning and professional development is encouraged, as technology is constantly evolving as well has having excellent communication skills, to convey technical information clearly and patiently to users of varying skill levels.

The working language of ESS is English but it would be great if you could also work in Swedish as well.
