In the IDUN section at DTU Health Tech we are currently looking for a technical specialist for producing and characterizing medico devices aimed at Therapeutic Drug Monitoring (TDM). Within the framework of our European Innovation council grant ‘Automated Clinical Platform for Personalized Antibiotherapy in Critical Units Based on Surface Enhancement Raman Spectroscopy’ (AU-SERS), the overall ambition is to design, produce and characterize new medico devices for therapeutic drug monitoring of patients in treatment for sepsis at the intensive care unit.
In the IDUN section we have solid empirical experience in designing, producing, and testing sensing devices based on Surface Enhanced Raman scattering (SERS). These activities were initiated more than 10 years ago when we developed a so-called nanopillar SERS substrate that we now use in a range of applications.
We offer a highly creative, collaborative and ambitious work environment. This project will be part of the IDUN section, led by Prof. Anja Boisen at Department of Health Technology (DTU Health Tech). IDUN is a cross-disciplinary research section with over 50 members, that focuses on development of micro and nanotechnology-based sensors, detection systems and drug delivery devices.
The job
As a technical specialist you will be working in close collaboration with researchers currently working on our EIC-funded project on therapeutic drug monitoring. and you will be referring to Professor Anja Boisen. You need to thrive in an international, multidisciplinary and highly ambitious team where things move at a fast pace. It is paramount that you have a proven track record of working hands-on with Raman-based systems, machine and software development. Furthermore, it is important that you have worked with prototyping of medical devices.
You are expected to work with our collaborators at Rigshospitalet (clinicians and nurses). The position will allow you to strengthen your skills and experience within the field of device design and fabrication, software development, data analysis, and device development in a hospital setting.
Below is a selection of your future primary areas of responsibility listed:
- Develop instruments for microfluidic pretreatment and SERS-based analysis of blood samples
- Design and fabrication of hardware
- Develop firmware and software for machine control and data collection
- Develop software algorithms for spectroscopic data treatment and chemometric analysis
- Purchase and implementation of equipment needed for instrument fabrication
- Technical documentation, article writing and potential patent applications
Our expectations of you
We seek a highly motivated and ambitious person with a curious and innovative mindset. You will most likely have a strong engineering background in a field related to physics and electronics. The ideal candidate holds a master or PhD degree and has extensive hands-on experience in developing and characterizing instruments for Raman-based sensing as well as software development. You are theoretically well-founded with a keen interest in physics, electronics and instrumentation. You are proactive and excel at working both independently as well as in collaboration with other team members. You are excited by fundamental as well as applied research, generation, documentation and communication of technically advanced results and you are currently more interested in pursuing a specialist job rather than a tenure track research position. You are also open to take responsibility of new tasks within your competence areas as well as other tasks within the framework of the IDUN section.

You will play a role in fabrication and characterization activities in the research section, interacting with several members working in different disciplines, such as biology, microfabrication, pharmaceutical science and polymer science. Salary and appointment terms
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations (AC).
The position is a full-time position. Starting date is as soon as possible.
