Supporting research and teaching activities associated with the current role have a strong multidisciplinary nature that will encompass materials science, mechanics, electronics, computer science, and metrology.
The Instrumentation group at DTU Civil and Mechanical Engineering has one vacant position for a Lab engineer targeting the Additive Manufacturing (AM) activities at the department. The AM activities at DTU are centered around building open architecture systems that support application-based innovative research.
The job
Your primary objective will involve the enhancement of the AM Group expertise in high-resolution AM of polymers, ceramics and metals, more specifically in the use of VPP, SLS and BJ for emerging technologies like energy devices.
Collaboration with local peers, academic scholars, and industry affiliates within Denmark and internationally will be an integral part of your role. The ideal candidate should demonstrate a propensity for collaboration and effective communication, as the projects entail collaboration with multiple industrial partners and various departments within DTU. Furthermore, a comprehensive understanding of the industrial application of Additive Manufacturing is crucial, along with exceptional skills in knowledge transfer and documentation.
In addition, to proficiently support the requisite research and development, the candidate is expected to possess the following qualifications:
- A robust background in polymer and ceramic Additive Manufacturing, particularly in the realm of materials development.
- Experience building systems and subsystems for AM processes.
- Experience in product integration and process development.
- A deep understanding of the relationships between process, structure, and properties in polymer and ceramic Additive Manufacturing components.
- Strong background in materials, process, and systems development for VPP, SLS and BJ.
- A foundation in materials and slurry development.
- Familiarity with advanced characterization techniques, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS), and Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR).
- Experience with light projection systems and lasers.
Our expectations of you
In addition, to proficiently execute the requisite research and development, you are expected to possess the following qualifications:
- Experience with micro-scale AM technologies.
- Experience with photopolymer chemistry and photopolymer resin development.
- Experience with biocompatible materials.
- Experience with materials for Energy applications.
- Experience with metrology for AM components.
- Experience with processing ceramic materials by AM technologies.
You are expected to hold a degree matching the qualifications above within Manufacturing Engineering or similar, as it relates to Additive Manufacturing. A relevant suitable industry experience could be considered. It is expected that you have conducted excellent research in an academic environment or obtained collaborative skills from similar experience; ability to work independently, possess the skills to plan and carry out complicated tasks, and be a part of a large, dynamic group.
