A geophysicist is wanted for the Department of Geoscience

At the Department of Geoscience, Hydrogeophysics group, a position as academic employee is available for occupation per 1 March 2025 or as soon as possible. This is a time-limited position of 2 years.

Your work will range widely within research support tasks and you will be part of an informal and dynamic research environment. You will have very varied working days both in the office and collecting data in the field in different parts of the world. You will be part of an international working environment, and the group's internal communication takes place in English.

The hydrogeophysics group includes researchers, developers, administrative staff, post docs and Ph.D. The group carries out research and development of geophysical methods to support groundwater mapping in Denmark. In addition to Denmark, the group works with projects in Europe, India, the USA, and several countries in Africa.

Tasks
Your tasks will include:

  • Data collection, processing and interpretation of geophysical data, primarily TEM and ERT/IP data, but also magnetic, NMR (surface and logging), and GCM/EMI data, including processing in Aarhus Workbench
  • Preparation of scientific articles and reports in English
  • Dissemination of geophysical knowledge to Danish and foreign partners
  • Active participation in geophysical research projects
  • Teaching geophysical methods and software for Danish and foreign partners

The applicant will be expected to participate in a significant amount of field work both domestically and internationally. Internationally, the applicant will be expected to participate in 2-4 campaigns per year with each campaign on the order of 2-3 weeks duration. A portion of these activities will involve training programs to audiences of 15-20 persons including software and field training. In some cases the field work takes place in challenging conditions (e.g. rural settings in East Africa).

The applicant must also have experience in Python and/or be willing to learn Python for use/development of experimental data handling protocols.

Qualifications
Your background is in geophysics. In terms of language, you can express yourself fluently in English, and you would like to have experience of collaboration on an international level. You have experience with the software program Aarhus Workbench, and in-depth knowledge of various geophysical methods, such as ERT/IP and TEM. It is also a great advantage if the applicant has experience with the MRS method and magnetometer instruments. The applicant must also have experience in geophysical data collection. Previous experience as a trainer of geophysical methods is considered a plus.

The applicant is also expected to be self-motivated, able to work independently, detail-oriented, and flexible. You can handle diverse tasks and have many balls in the air. At the same time, you have personal impact and are willing to take responsibility. You will also be required to coordinate regularly with international partners and must enjoy working in a dynamic environment.
