About You
Dalberg is currently seeking a motivated and entrepreneurial candidate to join its operations team as HR Senior Manager. This is a full-time role that will be based in Kenya, South Africa, or Rwanda. The HR Senior Manager will play a key role in running the HR function for ~50 staff across our rapidly growing Africa presences in Addis Ababa, Kigali, Nairobi, Dar es Salaam, Johannesburg, Lagos, Abidjan, Dakar, and Rabat.
Reporting to the People/Talent Lead(s) and liaising with colleagues across the globe, this role will manage a growing team of ~2-3 professionals in the People function. The HR Senior Manager’s role will be to lead processes and initiatives across multiple HR aspects including, but not limited to recruiting, performance management, training, onboarding/offboarding, policies and compliance, staff satisfaction, etc. This role is both strategic as well as implementation focused.
qualifications and experience
- Ability to detect and anticipate HR needs to concretely meet Dalberg's growth objectives, while ensuring the well-being of employees on all HR levels
- Experience in attracting, recruiting, developing, motivating, and retaining talent in a fast-paced culture
- Excellent understanding of trends, innovations and best practices in human capital development and succession preparation
- Critical thinking, attention to detail and ability to solve problems, along with strong analytical skills, especially qualitative analysis on human resources and the ability to synthesize results to inform decision making
- Proven ability to manage multiple processes simultaneously, adjust priorities when necessary, work under pressure, manage modules transparently and meet tight deadlines
- Mastery of HR / labor law legislation in example countries where Dalberg has a presence in Africa
- Experience working with and managing HR staff to implement business strategies
- Experience managing multiple stakeholders and working with senior management
- Experience in a strategic position in professional services companies such as consulting, law or accounting firms, or at least in a multinational company
- Experience working in Africa and/or other developing contexts
- Minimum qualifications of a Bachelor’s degree
- At least 7 years of professional experience, with at least 4 years in an HR focused role
- Fluency in English and French

- Intercultural sensitivity, knowledge and ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds

- Sensitivity and discretion in handling information
- Excellent interpersonal, presentation, verbal and written communication and team management skills
Desired digital skills:
- Ability to learn and use software packages such as Deltek Maconomy and Talent, and others
- Deep knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Sharepoint)
- Knowledge of social media and other professional networks (eg Glassdoor, LinkedIn, etc.)
What You Will Do and How You Will Grow
Given the growing nature of Dalberg Africa, the responsibilities listed below are only indicative. A major part of the role is to identify new projects to improve the experience of Dalberg Africa’s employees. Key responsibilities include:
Leadership of the People Function
- Build and grow the People function for the Africa region, with a focus on developing critical People initiatives, processes, and policies for longer-term growth e.g., i.e. interview/recruitment process, onboarding, project experience, staff professional development, offboarding, etc.
- Drive the optimization of business processes in accordance with group policies for the achievement of Dalberg's objectives in Africa (training, development, performance, etc.)
Staff Oversight
- Serve as a resource for staff to come to with concerns or grievances; working with management to keep a check on staff needs and implement solutions as appropriate
- Managing the internal HR ERP system and regional employee information
HR Compliance
- Work with legal partners to ensure Dalberg Africa’s policies are aligned with what is defined by the law and stay up-to-date on changing requirements
- Lead engagement with Employer-on-Record providers to ensure a seamless staff experience across different jurisdictions
- Managing Employer on Record onboarding and offboarding
- Ensure quality assurance of timesheets and leave/absence reporting, led by the HR Senior Associate
Talent Acquisition and Retention
- Create a recruitment and retention strategy that enables getting on board, best in class talent across all levels, to prepare the organization for growth
- Conduct pyramid planning and identify recruitment needs
- Support the HR Associate to run end-to-end recruitment processes and onboarding for new hires
- Record and analyse recruitment data to report on key trends and apply the same in refining the recruitment strategy and processes
- Maintain database of expert and consulting contractors
- Support HR Senior Associate to ensure seamless offboarding of staff and contractors
Performance Management
- Strengthen the performance management processes to grow and develop consulting and operations staff members
- Support the HR Senior Associate to execute performance management for consulting and operations staff
- Oversight of performance improvement plan processes, including providing guidance to line managers of staff on performance improvement plans
HR Team Management
- Lead, manage, and motivate ~2-4 team members in the People function providing strategic problem-solving support, as well as getting into the weeds on details of processes when necessary
