Are you an IT professional with a passion for problem-solving and empowering others through technology? We’re seeking a full-time IT Officer to support our South Sudan operations. Join us in this challenging but rewarding role where you will play a critical part in enabling our mission through technology.
DanChurchAid (DCA) is an International Non-Governmental Organisation with headquarters in Copenhagen, Denmark. The organisation was founded in 1922, and have country offices in 19 countries across Africa, the Middle East, Ukraine, and Asia.
DCA has been operating in South Sudan since 2007, focusing on three Global Goals: Save Lives, Build Resilient Communities, and Fight Extreme Inequalities. Our efforts span Upper Nile, Jonglei, GPAA, Central Equatoria, and Eastern Equatoria States, primarily in collaboration with national partners.
Key Responsibilities:
The duties include, but are not limited to the following:
IT Support
- Provide IT support to approximately 55 users across three locations, both in-person and remotely.
- Respond to incident reports and requests via multiple channels, ensuring timely troubleshooting of hardware, software, and network issues.
- Configure and maintain computer systems, including software installations and operating systems.
Collaboration & Coordination
- Serve as the primary liaison between the South Sudan office and HQ IT team, ensuring seamless alignment on IT policies and procedures.
- Collaborate with HQ IT staff to implement policies, maintain operations, and escalate complex issues.
- Act as the on-site responder for IT emergencies, such as security breaches or system outages.
Network & System Management
- Deploy and maintain LAN infrastructure, including cabling, wireless connectivity, and network equipment.
- Ensure compliance with DCA and donor data protection policies, maintaining IT security and system integrity.
- Manage technical assets and software licensing to optimize resource utilization.
Training & Capacity Building
- Train and guide staff on IT tools and services, fostering effective use of technology across the team.
- Develop capacity among colleagues through e-learning platforms and hands-on support.
Strategic Contributions
- Support IT upgrades and contribute to long-term planning to improve operational efficiency.
- Lead or assist in rolling out DCA-wide IT initiatives in the South Sudan office.
Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain thorough documentation of procedures, incidents, and resolutions to support knowledge-sharing.
- Provide regular IT performance reports to aid decision-making.
What You Bring
Core Competencies
- Proficiency in break/fix troubleshooting for laptops and IT equipment, ensuring timely resolution of technical issues.
- Solid IT background with expertise in network setup, hardware maintenance, and troubleshooting.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 (including Outlook, Teams, OneDrive, and SharePoint) and Windows operating systems.
- Knowledge of basic IT security principles and best practices.
- Adaptability to work in environments with unreliable power and connectivity.
Soft Skills
- Strong problem-solving and critical thinking abilities.
- Clear, empathetic communication skills to explain technical concepts to non-technical users.
- Cultural sensitivity and a collaborative mindset in multicultural settings.
Preferred Experience
- Familiarity with AI technologies, particularly text-based large language models (LLMs).
- Cloud computing platforms like Azure.
- Troubleshooting Windows 10/11, iOS, and Android devices.
- Managing network-attached storage, wireless devices, and routers.
- Coordinating with local trusted IT providers.
Admin work 20%
- Analyse departmental needs and opportunities for improvement in IT related
- Providing clerical and administrative support to Human Resources executives
- To be trained writing all staff meeting minutes for bio-weekly meeting.
- HRIS regularly kept updated, On-line legal documents processing for approval such as work permits, Personal Tin numbers, keeping all contractually and legal binding documents securely filed in soft. To ensure uploading on DCA Intranet of all relevant documents.
- Create and keep updated the HR & Admin Portal
- Processing staff ID and business cards that must always be used and collected when staff separate with DCA
The position will be reporting to the Head of HR & Admin
The position will work closely together with the programme team, the MEAL team, Support Departments, the implementing partners, and IT advisors at HQ.
Required Competencies
To excel in this role, the ideal candidate should have:
- Extensive Experience: At least 3 years’ experience in the humanitarian and/or development sector, including a minimum of 3 years focused on IT.
- PSEAH and Accountability Expertise: Deep understanding of Prevention of Sexual Exploitation, Abuse, and Harassment, as well as our Child Safeguarding Policy, accountability, and complaints mechanisms, with the ability to train others and develop relevant tools and processes.
- Relevant Education: A bachelor's degree IT or a related field.
- Language Proficiency: Excellent written and spoken English skills.
- Capacity Building: Experience in working with and strengthening the capacities of local partners.
- Teamwork and Communication: Strong team player with exceptional communication skills.
- Travel Readiness: Willingness to travel to remote areas in South Sudan and internationally as required.
What we can offer you:
The successful applicant will be offered a 1-year with the possibility of extension dependent on both funding and performance.
