Your role and responsibilities
At ABB Metallurgy Products we offer the world's most comprehensive range of electromagnetic stirring and braking solutions (EMS) for both steel and aluminium production. Our market-leading EMS deliver metallurgical improvements that are proven to increase productivity, end-product quality and reduce operating costs for electric arc, ladle and aluminium furnaces, as well as thick and thin slab and billet and bloom casters. At our Metallurgy office in Västerås, we have all functions in the business unit represented ranging from R&D, Engineering, Sales, Project Management to Production. You’d be working in-dependently with the task with support from and regular discussions with the engineering team. Details: • Period: Q1-Q2 2025 • Master thesis, 30 ECTS/hp • 1 students • Location: On site at ABB Västerås, partly remote work is possible Your responsibilities: • Analyze current model for coil and winding design for electromagnetic stirrers, find weakness and suggest and implement improvements • Deliver a solution for transferring output data from model for coil and winding design into 3D CAD with parameterized models. • Develop and optimize a standardized parametrization process and ensure compatibility with our range of EMS products • Create documentation and instructions for the redesigned process and present the solution to the engineering team
Qualifications for the role
- MSc student within the following or related areas: Mechanical engineering; Electrical engineering; Product development
- Knowledge of 3D CAD (SolidWorks preferred)
- Knowledge of Visual Basics (VBA)
- Good communication and presentation skills
