Business Ares (BA) Wind is responsible for the development, construction and operation of wind power onshore and offshore as well as other non-hydro renewable activities like solar and batteries. We manage the maintenance, operation and continuous improvement of wind generation assets safely and with the highest levels of availability and profitability. We also perform the structuring and execution of project partnerships in accordance with overall wind strategy.
The Environmental and Sustainability unit (EnSu) within BA Wind is a centralized unit supporting our business activities across onshore, offshore, solar, batteries & hydrogen with the aim of lifting sustainability into every aspect of our business and facilitating co-existence of renewable energy development with society and a rich natural environment.
Social sustainability and human rights are becoming more important in the renewable energy sector due to changing laws, markets, stakeholder expectations, and business models. We must ensure compliance, minimize risks, and aim to create value through innovation and leadership.
We are looking for a (Senior) Social Sustainability expert in the EnSu unit within our BA Wind to support us with Social Sustainability & Human Rights expertise on the journey to be a frontrunner in sustainability.
Your main tasks and responsibilities:
- Act as the interface to the Vattenfall Sustainability Department and together shape strategic direction and ambition for BA Wind.
- Ensure robust human rights practices in BA Wind, including roles, responsibilities, governance, and reporting structures. Support with training and that human rights roles and responsibilities are communicated clearly and ownership taken up by the business.
- Stay updated with social sustainability trends, legal requirements, and facilitate actions within BA Wind. Provide input to Public and Regulatory Affairs on legal and policy developments.
- Support and document BA Wind compliance with human rights legislation, agreements and ambitions.
- Support BA Wind with social sustainability and human rights expertise, ensuring a cohesive approach across the organization. Support in procurement and operational execution of social sustainability in tenders, auctions, due diligence and other Offshore, Onshore, Solar & Battery project specific tasks.
- Represent BA Wind in industry initiatives and associations and facilitate related input and knowledge sharing of VF and BA Wind relevant stakeholders.
Your profile
Your qualifications and personal skills:
- University degree in sustainability management, human rights, politics, or comparable fields.
- Several years of experience in social sustainability, particularly in purchasing and supply chain topics.
- Experience with implementing UN Guiding Principles and OECD Due Diligence Guidance in business settings.
- Knowledge of relevant legislations like the Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive, Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive, and the German Supply Chain Act.
- Passion for sustainability, preferably with experience in the wind, solar, and/or batteries sector.
- Strong analytical and communication skills for conveying complex information clearly.
- Pro-active, innovative, and a team player with good project management skills.
- Fluent in written and spoken English; additional language skills in Dutch, German, Swedish, or Danish are valuable.
