Background
DCA Lebanon has worked in mine action since 2007. In addition to reducing the harm from explosion, clearance activities also release contaminated land for socio-economic development in the context of rising demands from the local and refugee population. In 2012, DCA began implementing humanitarian and development projects through local partners and scaled up its operations in 2021 due to the deepening crisis in the country.

Role
The objective of this position is to get a professional and well-trained searcher/de-miner to perform demining and BAC operations. The searcher/de-miner is deployed in a specified area or lane and is responsible for the mines/BAC clearance and marking in accordance with DCA’s SOP & NMAS.

Responsibilities

  • Survey and mapping of areas affected by landmines and other explosives.
  • Identify and mark the location of landmines and other explosives.
  • Arrive to work on time and wear DCA uniform.
  • Conduct work in a safe manner and as by DCA’s SOP and NMAS.
  • Check all equipment prior to use and report any non-conformity to the Team Leader/Deputy Team Leader.
  • Use the personnel protecting equipment (PPE) according to the SOP Chapter 4.
  • Carry out instructions safely and without objections.
  • Inform the Team Leader/Deputy Team Leader when discovering a suspected mine/unexploded ordnance (UXO) by calling out “STOP” and raising the arm.
  • Be directly responsible and accountable for the issued equipment at all times.
  • Ensure that all equipment is maintained daily. Remove mobile phones and all metal and jewelry prior to daily operation.
  • Clear landmines and other explosives from the ground using specialized equipment and techniques.
  • Carry out other tasks as dictated by changing circumstances or as required by the Site Supervisor and Team Leader.
  • Participate in training sessions as instructed by the Hed of Operations/Senior Quality Assurance Officer.
  • Educate local communities about the risks of landmines and other explosives and how to stay safe.
  • Report any malfunctions or damage to equipment to the Team Leader/Deputy Team Leader immediately.

  • استخدام معدات الحماية الفردية (معدات الوقاية الشخصية) وفقا لل (SOP) الفصل الرابع.
  • تنفيذ تعليمات السلامة بدون اعتراضات.
  • أبلغ قائد فريق/مساعد قائد الفريق عندما اكتشاف لغم/ذخائر غير المنفجرة برفع الذراع والصراخ "لغم.
  • يكون مسؤولاً بصورة مباشرة عن المعدات التي تم تسليمها اليه وفي جميع الأوقات.
  • ضمان الحفاظ على جميع المعدات يومياً.
  • إزالة جميع الهواتف المحمولة والمعادن والمجوهرات قبل بدء العمليات اليومية.
  • إزالة الألغام والمتفجرات الأخرى من الأرض باستخدام معدات وتقنيات متخصصة
  • القيام بجميع الواجبات الأخرى المطلوبة من المشرف على الموقع.
  • المشاركة في التدريب وفقا لتعليمات مدير العمليات/ضابط جودة النوعية.
  • توعية المجتمعات المحلية بمخاطر الألغام والمتفجرات الأخرى وكيفية البقاء في أمان
  • إبلاغ (TL/DTL) فوراً عن أي خلل أو تلف بالمعدات.

Background

  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in HMA Activities.
  • Previously accredited is a plus.
  • Good physical and mental capability.
  • Previous work with humanitarian organizations or INGOs is desirable.
  • Previous experience in demining, explosive ordnance disposal, or a related field.
  • Familiarity with demining techniques, procedures, and safety protocols.
  • Experience in surveying and mapping areas affected by landmines and explosives.
  • Practical experience in identifying, marking, and safely disposing of landmines and unexploded ordnance.
  • Proven ability to adhere to strict safety guidelines and protocols in hazardous environments.
  • Proficiency in using demining equipment and specialized tools.
  • Knowledge of different types of landmines and explosive ordnance.
  • Familiarity with standard operating procedures (SOPs) related to demining and explosives management.
  • Understanding of the National Mine Action Standards (NMAS) and their implementation.
  • Ability to perform equipment checks and report any non-conformities.
  • Competence in using personnel protective equipment (PPE) according to established protocols.
  • Skilled in following instructions, adapting to changing circumstances, and collaborating within a team.
  • Proficiency in safe and controlled methods of clearing and disposing of landmines and explosives.
  • Must have the ability to read and write in the local language (Arabic)/or Proficiency in Arabic is essential due to the Lebanese context.
  • English language skills are beneficial for effective communication within an international organization.
  • Must be physically and mentally fit.
  • High school diploma or equivalent is typically required as a minimum.
  • Additional certifications or training in demining, explosive ordnance disposal, or related fields are advantageous.
  • Sensitivity and cultural awareness when interacting with local communities.
  • Effective communication skills to follow instructions, report findings, and collaborate within a team.
  • Ability to carry out tasks safely and without objections in a team environment.
  • Ability to adapt to changing circumstances.

Reporting

  • Regular reports on the performance and services will be submitted to the Team Site Supervisor on a weekly basis.
  • Regular check-ins and feedback sessions will be conducted to ensure effective coordination and support.
