Are you ready to lead impactful projects that rebuild and strengthen communities? Join us as Project Manager in Mykolaiv, where your expertise will drive recovery and resilience efforts alongside the Ukrainian Red Cross Society (URCS).
Since 2014, Danish Red Cross (DRC) has supported URCS. Following the escalation of the conflict in February 2022, DRC scaled up its operations to meet the urgent needs of affected populations. As the response transitions toward recovery and long-term development, we are committed to supporting URCS in creating sustainable solutions for vulnerable communities.
We are now seeking a skilled Project Manager to lead and oversee two or more multi-sectoral projects in Mykolaiv in partnership with URCS. These projects, funded by DRC and Danish MFA, focus on Water and Habitat/Shelter (WATHAB), energy solutions, and community resilience. This role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the recovery, rehabilitation, and reconstruction efforts in Ukraine while strengthening local capacity and operational independence.
As Project Manager your key role and responsibilities are:
Project Planning, Implementation, and Monitoring:
Collaborate with URCS and partners to establish and maintain effective project management systems, ensuring alignment with project documents, log frames, budgets, activity plans, and donor requirements. Provide guidance and support to the URCS team on planning, implementation, monitoring, and revisions, while ensuring compliance with DRC and donor regulations, including cross-cutting approaches such as Community Engagement and Accountability, and Protection, Gender, and Inclusion.
Quality Assurance, Coordination, Reporting and Financial Management
Monitor project progress in collaboration with DRC and URCS Finance and PMEAL staff, support needs assessments, and ensure high-quality external narrative reporting and ensure proper financial management systems and. Facilitate lessons learned, strengthen operational coordination between URCS and DRC teams, and apply quality assurance systems. Archive project documentation for compliance and provide additional technical and managerial support as needed.
Technical Guidance and Capacity Building:
Lead Mykolaiv components within DRC-supported projects, providing specialized guidance for effective implementation by URCS. Collaborate with URCS to strengthen their technical and operational capacity, including strategic planning and portfolio expansion in WATHAB, energy, and community resilience. Promote National Society Development (NSD) principles and mentor DRC national staff to enhance their project management skills and long-term impact.
Partnership and Stakeholder Engagement:
Actively engage with the Danish Embassy, Danish organizations, international stakeholders, and local partners, fostering strong relationships and effective communication. Maintain situational awareness as DRC’s primary representative on the ground, coordinating visits, delivering briefings, and ensuring alignment with organizational goals and stakeholder expectations. Strengthen DRC’s contributions to in-country coordination efforts and external partnerships.
As Project Manager you will become part of the Programmes Team with passionate colleagues in DRC Ukraine Country Office. Humor, ambitions and collaboration is key in our everyday work, whilst we have our eyes caught on quality, collaboration and developmental potentials. As Project Manager you will refer to Head of Fields, Erica Feigenbaum.
The Programme Manager will be based in Ukraine, with Mykolaiv as the preferred duty station. We invite both nationals living in Ukraine and internationals willing to relocate to Ukraine to apply for the position.
We are looking for a candidate with the following:
Professional Experience: Proven track record in managing multi-sectoral projects in development and/or humanitarian settings.
Technical Expertise: Familiarity with WATHAB, energy solutions, community resilience, organizational development, rehabilitation, and recovery.
Project Management Skills: Experience in coordinating grants and multi-partner programming, particularly with institutional donors (e.g., MFA, ECHO, UN).
Language Skills: Excellent English communication skills (both written and spoken); Ukrainian or Russian language proficiency is highly preferred.
Personal Qualities: Strong interpersonal and networking skills, cultural sensitivity, patience, adaptability to high-pressure environments, and the ability to foster trust-based relationships.

Interviews will take place online during week 3, second interviews during week 4 with an expected date of commencement ideally no later than 1 March 2025. We will prior to an employment with your consent contact persons for references. The length of the contract will be 12 months. There will be 5-10 travelling days per month.
A contract for national staff in Ukraine the contract will be administrated by International Frederation of Red Cross (IFRC). A contract for international staff will be administered in accordance with the Danish Red Cross Terms & Conditions for Delegates.
