Job Description
The Pathology Division develops and markets industry leading cancer diagnostics solutions including advanced staining instruments, companion diagnostic tests and workflow software that serve thousands of anatomic and molecular pathology labs in over 80 countries.
Reporting to the President of the Life Sciences and Diagnostics Markets Group (LDG), the Vice President and General Manager of the Pathology Division will have P&L responsibility for the division and will be accountable for leading strategy, executing operational plans, delivering profitable revenue growth and managing a diverse organization. S/he will be a key member of the LDG executive leadership team (ELT) and will work in close partnership with other LDG ELT colleagues to advance the multi-year LDG strategy to play an important part in improving the human condition by bringing the power of precision medicine to customers, partners and patients.
Key position requirements include:
- Deep domain knowledge / understanding of the platforms, technologies/science and relevant market dynamics for the pathology market
- Proven P&L leadership experience of a business and/or commercial function
- Strategic and execution ability; proven experience in developing and executing multi-year strategic plans at Company, Group or Business Unit level
- Knowledge and experience in developing, launching and managing diagnostics products
- Knowledge and experience leading life cycle management (including R&D, marketing, product launch) of diagnostic systems, as well as instruments, consumables and software
- Meaningful knowledge and established senior level relationships with organizations and individuals that are likely to be customers and partners for the Pathology Division
- Proven ability to effectively engage, interact with, influence and retain the confidence of senior executives and peers at the executive level (internal and external to the company)
Essential Duties and Capabilities:
- P&L responsibility for the Pathology Division
- Define, advance and execute key strategies and initiatives for the Pathology Division
- Build organizational capabilities; attract, retain and grow a talented leader and the overall organization
- Deliver results; align on the key financial and business deliverables with stakeholders and consistently meet these deliverables on the timelines agreed to
Qualifications
- BS in a life sciences related field; PhD, M.S. or MBA preferred.
- Prior general management experience preferred along with 10+ years of experience in one or more of the following; product marketing leadership, commercial leadership, business development, R&D leadership or related positions with increasing levels of management responsibilities.
- Demonstrated track record of success in leading a diverse, global team while growing revenues, ideally with a company, new business unit or product line experiencing expansion and growth amidst a competitive market environment.
- Global experience; with customers, employees and competitors.
- Deep domain knowledge / understanding of the platforms, technologies/science and relevant market dynamics for the pathology market.
- Proven P&L leadership experience of a business and/or commercial function.
- Knowledge and experience in developing, launching and managing diagnostics products in a regulated environment.
- Experience of effectively leading (directly or indirectly) regulatory affairs and quality assurance capabilities to maintain compliance and an environment of regulatory and operational excellence.
- Knowledge and experience leading life cycle management (including R&D, marketing, product launch) of diagnostic systems; and instruments, consumables and software.
- Strategic and execution ability; proven experience in developing and executing multi-year strategic plans at Company, Group or Business Unit level.
- Demonstrated track record of results utilizing interpersonal, relationship-building skills required in leading multi-cultural and geographically dispersed teams in a fast-paced, highly matrixed environment.
- Demonstrated capabilities in the following core areas:
- Financial acumen and analytical analysis - Understand drivers of shareholder value and relevant business models, and how to translate these into proposals supporting financial and growth objectives.
- Business strategy – Experience in creating complex business strategies and developing actionable plans. Aware of relevant external business competition, conditions and trends in, pathology, molecular diagnostics, CDx, genomics and precision medicine.
- Partnering and influence – provide ability to present solutions in ways that are heard, understood and supported. Ability to add insight that positively influences senior management decision-making. Ability to communicate with clarity, conviction and confidence across various stakeholders and decision makers.
