As part of Vestas' journey towards a modular product, the technology has created modules and sub-modules. Within the sub-modules, we have senior functional leads who are fully responsible for the technical aspects of a complete functional area of the wind turbine. Senior functional leads are critical to the organization as they are the pinnacle of the strategy, roadmap, and technical leadership for development teams facilitating those functional areas. This is a position of high responsibility, as senior functional leads are responsible not only for the development but also for guiding the teams to quality while ensuring the overall coordination of their functional areas within the scope of the entire Vestas turbine software environment.
The Technical Management submodule sits within the Vestas Turbine Software organization. The Technical Management submodule works with the overall architecture and software strategy for turbine control, including critical aspects of turbine operation. E.g., the control of the safety systems and implementing and testing software based on requirements to prevent turbine structural damage and personnel injuries, all carried out in close collaboration with mechanical and electrical stakeholders. The safety software teams that you will be setting the technical direction for consist of highly skilled, international, experienced engineers who are taking responsibility for all aspects of the safety software deliverables, which are developed at our Porto, Portugal, and Aarhus, Denmark locations.
Responsibilities
You will report to the module design owner of the Turbine Control Software module as part of the Technical Management team and will be responsible for:
- The continued development of safety software processes, including activities to ensure compliance with relevant safety standards such as ISO 13849-1 and IEC 61508
- Ensuring that safety development processes, strategic roadmap, architecture and quality expectations are met
- Ensuring that safety software remains innovative by keeping abreast of developments within relevant industries and translating this to a strategy which can be executed by the safety software sub-module
- Guiding safety software modularization according to the goals of the Vestas modularization strategy
- Participating in requirement development and discussions of design considerations for new features within safety software
- Managing intellectual property development within safety software, including patents and ensuring freedom to operate
- Having an an advanced understanding of the technical domain under your responsibility together with the architecture and context of the safety software submodule
- Overseeing and integrating technical submodule roadmap, following Vestas' modularization strategy, to optimize work and maximize reusability across wind turbine platforms
Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience working in safety software development and technical leadership roles
- Basic understanding and experience in Agile software development framework
- Well-versed in technical guidance within software development domains
- Experience with multicultural or multi-site development teams is beneficial
- Innovative, customer-focused and have a high level of commitment
- Experience interacting with service and technical support teams in your previous jobs is beneficial
- Advanced communication skills and are fluent in English, both written and spoken
- Aspiration and interest to learn about wind turbine design processes from a software engineering perspective, and you have a continuous improvement mindset, creatively contributing to encouraging Turbine Control Software continuous improvement initiatives

The primary work location is Aarhus, Denmark or Porto, Portugal.
