Senior Electrical Engineer, Electrical & Grid Integration
About the Position
As a Senior Electrical Engineer, you will be a pivotal part of the diverse Engineering Group, under the EPC (Engineering, Procurement and Construction) department. The Electrical & Grid Integration (E&GI) team is one of the four teams in Engineering and consists of 3 colleagues located in Denmark. The team is comprised of both Electrical Engineers and Grid Integration Engineers. You will be reporting to the Team Manager, E&GI and work at our main office in Copenhagen.
As a key member of our project team, you will contribute with your technical expertise to Nordic Solar’s PV and BESS projects across Europe. You will be responsible for the electrical system design of our solar PV and BESS plants and their grid connection, making sure to implement techno-economical optimal electrical designs. Furthermore, you will ensure that the design complies with legislation, standards, and grid connection requirements.
You will have an interface internally to various colleagues across departments and externally with transmission and distribution system operators, suppliers, and consultants.
Your Key Responsibilities:
- Design the HV, MV, and LV electrical systems of our PV and BESS plants, from the inverters to the grid connection point.
- Dimension the HV, MV, and LV AC cables, and their connections between electrical equipment and cooperate with the PV Design Team for the cable trench design.
- Provide technical expertise to the procurement team with technical specifications for electrical equipment and evaluate offers with regards to price, quality etc.
- In close cooperation with EPC Project Managers, manage external suppliers, contractors, and consultants for electrical substation design, construction, and commissioning:
- Prepare technical specifications with detailed scope definitions for procurement and ensure the substation design complies with grid connection agreements and project specific local requirements.
- Lead technical negotiations for grid connection and electrical equipment related procurement such as high-voltage switchgears and transformers.
- Ensure suppliers comply with the technical aspects of their contract and the project timeline during the contract period.
- Provide expert knowledge for the optimization of our park designs and coordinate the design work with other colleagues from the Engineering Department (PV Designers, Instrumentation & Control Engineers), as well as with EPC Project Managers.
- Manage external consultants during the detailed design phase of our PV and BESS plants, when it is chosen to outsource design packages.
- Assist the Commissioning Team onsite with technical expertise when needed for cold and hot commissioning of electrical equipment.
About You:
- Minimum of 3 years of relevant professional experience with electrical power systems.
- B.Sc. or M.Sc. in Electrical or Power System Engineering or similar.
- Expertise with electrical substations for transmission and distribution systems and/or grid connection of renewable energy projects such as PV, BESS, or wind power plants.
- Sound understanding of grid code requirements and main electrical components such as high-voltage switchgears and transformers.
- Experience with technical project management and interfacing with various stakeholders while maintaining focus on quality and the timeline.
- Fully proficient in English.
- Open to new ideas and ways of working, but also with a belief in your own thoughts and ideas.
- Pragmatic in decision making – you will be working with flexible deadlines and requirements for sudden adaptions to improve business cases as we are developing our own projects.
