Senior researcher position combined with a clinical professorship in Psychiatric Bioinformatics

A clinical position as senior researcher of psychiatric bioinformatics at the Psychiatric Center Sct. Hans, Copenhagen University Hospital - the Mental Health Services in Capital Region of Denmark (Institute of Biological Psychiatry) is open for appointment from as soon as possible.

The position is combined with with a 5-year externally funded position as clinical professor of psychiatric bioinformatics at the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen.

It is a requirement that the applicant is accepted for appointment of both the professorship and the clinical position.

About the Psychiatric Center Sct Hans
The Center, originally founded in 1816 and part of the Mental Health Services in the Capital Region of Denmark, is located at Roskilde Fjord and hosts two clinical department as well as the research Institute on Biological Psychiatry with a total of approximately 800 employees. The clinical departments provide specialized clinical care and treatment to patients in forensic psychiatry and double diagnoses. Throughout its long history, Sct. Hans has been a center for continuous collaborations between the clinical and research departments.

Institute of Biological Psychiatry, established in 1916 in recognition of mental disorders as conditions on par with somatic illnesses, strategically focuses on genomics, bioinformatics, and epidemiology to advance the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of psychiatric disorders. The institute employs 25-30 basic and physician scientists with diverse and complementary educational backgrounds and nationalities (currently 11). It entertains extensive national and international collaborations, particularly within the Nordics, UK, and US.

Clinical functions and focus areas of the department
Throughout its history the research institute has contributed to major scientific discoveries, including the dopamine hypothesis of psychosis, the identification of the mechanisms of action of benzodiazepines, as well as unravelling the genetic underpinnings of mental illnesses.

Clinical functions and focus areas of the department are:

(a) Supervising clinical departments on clinical genetics testing

(b) Providing population-based patient-profiling and prediction tools

(c) Supporting stratified patient treatment

(d) Mentoring medical students and physicians-in-residence in medical research

(e) Developing research-based clinical practice

(f) Active participation in educational activities.

Research and teaching
With the new position as senior researcher in psychiatric bioinformatics and clinical professor of psychiatric bioinformatics the Psychiatric Center Sct. Hans wishes to strengthen leadership in clinical research and teaching.

Qualifications
Applicants must be specialists in Psychiatric Bioinformatics and Neuroscience broadly.

Conditions
In order to be considered, the applicant must send an application to both the Faculty (the professorship) and to the hospital (the clinical position) cf. the simultaneously advertised position of the professorship. Appointment is conditioned by the fact that the applicant obtains both positions. This also applies to the applicants who are already employed as senior researchers at the Psychiatric Center Sct. Hans, Institute of Biological Psychiatry, Copenhagen University Hospital - Mental Health Services in the Capital Region.

Salary and conditions of employment as senior researcher are as agreed between the Danish Regions and the Danish Association of Medical Specialists and between the Capital Region and University of Copenhagen.

As clinical professor at least 50 % of the working time will be allocated to academic tasks (e.g., research, teaching, evaluation tasks and communication with the public) in agreement with the Head of Department of Department of Clinical Medicine at the University of Copenhagen. The remaining time will be allocated for clinical work in agreement with the head of Psychiatric Center Sct. Hans. The clinical professor will receive secretarial or technical support equivalent to 50 % of a full-time secretary position from the Psychiatric Center Sct. Hans. Additional support and details on the working conditions must be negotiated with the head of the department of Psychiatric Center Sct. Hans, Copenhagen University Hospital - the Mental Health Services in the Capital Region.
