Postdoc in Quantum Photonics - DTU Electro

Danmarks Tekniske Universitet (DTU)

Join us as a postdoc researcher to advance quantum photonics on the integrated lithium niobate-on-insulator (LNOI) platform. Contribute to groundbreaking research in quantum communication and cybersecurity.
Are you passionate about quantum photonics and eager to contribute to groundbreaking research? We offer an exciting opportunity for a postdoc researcher to work on squeezed light sources using the integrated lithium niobate-on-insulator (LNOI) photonics platform at the Technical University of Denmark (DTU)!

About the Project
Squeezed light sources are essential for quantum photonic technologies, including quantum communication, quantum computing, and quantum metrology. While traditionally achieved using bulk optics, integrated photonics offer significantly greater potential due to strong light-matter interaction in highly confined nonlinear waveguides. This approach is directly compatible with integrated quantum photonic systems. LNOI is an ideal material system for integration, thanks to its strong second-order nonlinearity and ability to be poled for precise phase matching.

This postdoc project, part of the Innovation Fund Denmark (IFD) Grand Solutions project “Advancing cybersecurity with continuous variable quantum cryptography” (CyberQ), will focus on developing highly squeezed light sources on the LNOI platform for quantum communications. You will design waveguides on periodically poled lithium niobate (PPLN) for squeezed state generation. Ultra-low loss PPLN waveguides will be fabricated in our state-of-the-art cleanroom at DTU Nanolab (formerly DTU Danchip). You will also investigate ultra-low loss fiber-to-chip couplers, aiming to achieve record-performance fiber-coupled squeezed light sources. Additionally, you will have the opportunity to collaborate with other project partners from both academia and industry.

The postdoc project will be associated with the High-Speed Optical Communications group (HSOC) at the Department of Electrical and Photonics Engineering at DTU Electro. The HSOC group is at the forefront of international research in integrated silicon and lithium niobate quantum photonics, on-chip quantum information processing, and high-dimensional quantum communication technologies. The HSOC group encourages collaborative work and offers an informal working environment. You will have access to on-site and state-of-the-art experimental and cleanroom facilities.

Responsibilities
As a postdoc researcher, you will:

  • Design PPLN waveguides for efficient nonlinear processing.
  • Fabricate ultra-low loss PPLN waveguides for light squeezing.
  • Develop ultra-low loss fiber-to-chip couplers on the LNOI platform.
  • Characterize squeezed light sources using state-of-the-art lab facilities.

Qualifications:

  • PhD degree or equivalent in a relevant field.
  • Experience in nonlinear photonics, quantum optics, and nanofabrication technology.
  • Strong self-motivation and excellent communication skills in English.
