Software Engineer, Embedded C++, R&D, Lystrup
Terma A/S
Want to be part of a skilled software team driving innovation in defense technology to protect people around the world?
We are facing an exciting future with considerable growth, as we deliver advanced technologies and mission critical solutions for the defense and aerospace industry. Our systems provide security for people on land, at sea and in the air. Therefore, we are looking to welcome five (!) more Software Engineers to become part of this journey and contribute to our overall purpose – securing people through advanced technology.
Your role in our team
As our new Software Engineer, you will develop embedded software for mission-critical projects and solutions. You will be working with a mix of seasoned pros and emerging talents – all committed to learning from each other and building great solutions together.
This position is part of Terma’s Multi-Domain Systems (MDS) – the Self Protection area, split between Lystrup (airborne) and Søborg (maritime). While collaboration is still a bit limited, we share components and keep an eye on each other’s smart solutions. The teams count about 22 people in Lystrup and 8 in Søborg — enough for deep technical focus and growing cross-site collaboration.
But let us be honest — this is about more than code
Our team builds systems that matter — and we do it with focus, curiosity, and genuine collaboration. If you enjoy complexity, craftsmanship, and good people to build with, you will probably feel at home here. The multi-domain defense space brings fascinating technical challenges, and it is a great place to deepen your skills while learning how advanced systems come together across air, sea, and beyond.
We will be happy to share more — but the real tech stories are best told face to face.
The technical challenges you will tackle
In this role, you will develop embedded C++ software on resource-constrained hardware with strict real-time requirements. Depending on your background and interests, your work may include:
Designing and maintaining embedded code — from timing-critical logic to low-level drivers, occasionally working closer to the hardware when needed
Adding new capabilities to existing platforms — without compromising performance, timing, or certification
Ensuring reliability through structured testing, traceability, and compliance in mission-critical domains
How you will make a meaningful contribution
Your key responsibilities include:
- Designing and implementing embedded C++ software for systems that truly matter
- Collaborating with systems engineers, architects, testers, and hardware wizards — whether you are software-leaning or comfortable near the metal
- Taking real ownership — from collaborating on requirements to making your code come alive in the field
- Driving improvements in our tools, workflows, and architecture as we grow
- Sharing knowledge, asking sharp questions, and yes — bringing your inner geek to the table
Bring your expertise into play
You are fluent in English; Danish is a plus, but not required. Moreover, we are also looking for a new colleague with the following qualifications:
- You have solid experience with embedded C/C++ and enjoy building robust, working solutions
- You’ve worked through the full software lifecycle — from specs to deployment and maintenance
- You hold a relevant technical degree or equivalent experience
- You bring a structured mindset, curiosity, and the ability to operate close to hardware when needed
- Bonus if you have worked with FPGAs, real-time systems, or in aerospace/defense contexts
As a person, you bring genuine enthusiasm for technology and a strong drive for continuous learning. You collaborate well in diverse teams, and you thrive in an environment where knowledge is shared, challenges are welcomed, and no one pretends to know everything.
We are an international company representing world class expertise, delivering complex and high-tech products. We value our colleagues and our meaningful contributions to securing people through advanced technology. You will also experience that we have a strong focus on your development, teaching you useful new competences and further strengthening current ones, both professionally and personally. Our company culture is autonomous and engaging, and we acknowledge the importance of flexibility in a great working environment.
When joining Terma, we promise that you will experience: Great people, challenging tasks, world-class expertise, and meaningful contribution in your daily work.
