Marine Systems / Mechanical Engineer for Marine Project Engineering
Everllence
Design the best engine- and propulsion solutions for vessels around the globe.
Some people like to crunch the numbers and make complex analyses. Others prefer to use their voice and interact with consultants and share their expertise with clients and specialists from all over the world. As a marine systems engineer with us, you get to do both. Take the next or first step in your career within onboard systems at Everllence (previously MAN Energy Solutions).
Come on board exciting projects
The maritime industry is developing fast, with new regulations and demands to reduce emissions significantly. You will work closely with experts and shipyards to design, implement, and optimize applications that support and drive our mission forward for the decarbonization of the maritime shipping industry. At Everllence, our sights are set on taking on the big challenges of climate change and the transition of the industry in alignment with the IMO's target for 2050. We offer a portfolio of pioneering technologies that contribute to a carbon-neutral world in the maritime sector.
You will play an important role in:
As a part of our Marine Project Engineering function, you will be one of our specialists in onboard systems and the development of our calculation tools used for supplying essential data to our various customers, including engine builders, shipyards, design houses, etc.
You will, in co-operation with another dedicated engineer, play a key role in developing and maintaining the engineering part of our systems for supplying data to our engine builders and shipyards, as we do today mainly via our online CEAS platform: ceas-engine-calculations/ as well as other internal and semi-public channels.
Moreover, you will:
- Work to obtain, curate, and systematize marine engine knowledge to enhance the performance of our engines and auxiliary systems, as well as data and calculations, so that it can be implemented in our software solutions. This could, i.e., be around steam production, cooling needs, or waste heat recovery, and in the future, potentially around, i.e., air lubrication of the hull with air supplied from the main engine or other novelties
- Work closely with the department's two dedicated software developers to integrate this knowledge into our software solutions
- Offer technical advice on systems optimisation and take part in internal and external studies to determine the relevance of new technologies and potential for Everllence.
- Answer questions from clients, mainly shipyards and design institutes, but also shipping companies and licensees
- Assist other engineers in making their knowledge “programmable” and help them create input models for our various channels for providing data to our different customers
- Perform troubleshooting in assistance with our programmers and test new implementations on our data systems.
Up to 10 days of travelling a year is to be expected, mainly to the shipyards and design offices in Southeast Asia, but potentially also to equipment manufacturers in Europe.
We imagine that you:
Can have a very broad range of educational background – what matters most is that you find it interesting to work as a generalist to integrate various components and solutions as part of a system. This includes both the physical world and integrating various data on components and calculations in our data supply to our customers. You are naturally curious, which drives your motivation to continuously explore and learn about new technologies. You enjoy innovating to develop solutions to challenges experienced in everyday life, and ideas are abundant as to how we can optimize our way of working and our data supply to ease the life of our customers, and ourselves
On top of this, we imagine our new colleague has:
- Education as a mechanical engineer, process engineer, energy engineer, naval architect, systems engineer, marine engineer, master of physics engineering, or a similar technical background
- An interest in learning about systems onboard a vessel – prior knowledge is a plus, but not a requirement
- A healthy curiosity in the two-stroke combustion process, including its limitations and opportunities to onboard systems and energy demands
- A genuine interest in working with various exhaust gas technologies to reduce emissions
- A slight interest in software development (or at least not being afraid of it) is useful, but the job's main focus is on the engines & their performance, not software development
- Furthermore, you have a healthy interest in understanding our software landscape and processes.
Welcome to the Marine Project Engineering
The marine project engineering team is responsible for the collaboration with various industry stakeholders, especially shipyards and engine builders, around the selection of the main engine, fuel types, and overall shipboard-systems optimization. It is a small team of eight naval architects and engineers, two software developers, and two student assistants.
We have daily contact with the engine builders and shipyards’ designers of the coming ships for tomorrow, fulfilling all the newest environmental and commercial standards, and providing engine data and giving advice. Besides new buildings, the department also works with optimization and development of retrofit solutions, as well as around data supply on onboard systems
What can you expect from us:
- Opportunities for professional growth and development.
- The chance to work on cutting-edge projects that make a real impact – both towards the business and towards the green transition of the maritime industry.
- A focus on long-term employment and career development within the company.
- Good possibilities for professional development and participation in courses.
