Energy Modelling Specialist in Kenya (Reposting)

Energistyrelsen

The Danish Energy Agency (DEA) and the Royal Danish Embassy in Kenya (RDE) are seeking a long-term energy adviser to be stationed in Nairobi, with Kenya’s Ministry of Energy and Petroleum (MOEP). Put your technical skills to work for a great purpose. Join our team of energy experts and play a pivotal role in supporting Kenya’s future energy landscape. Your technical skills and expert knowledge will be instrumental in supporting the Kenyan government partners in developing national power sector and energy plans.

About the Job
We are seeking a profile with solid experience in long-term energy planning and power system modelling with experience from the Danish energy sector. You will join our bilateral Kenya-Denmark Energy Partnership as an expert with the purpose of sharing your know-how and best-practices within power sector modelling and energy planning. You will be stationed at the Ministry of Energy and Petroleum (MOEP) and work with cross-government group of modelling experts in Kenya while having a close dialogue and cooperation with the DEA and the RDE. Energy planning and modelling is a high-priority area in our partnership with Kenya. Specifically, we contribute capacity building for the group responsible for developing the Least Cost Power Development Plan (LCPDP) as well as the Integrated National Energy Plan (INEP). The LCPDP group consists of more than 40 government staff representing generation, transmission, distribution, and regulation as well as relevant stakeholders in the electricity sector. We utilize Danish experience within energy modelling and long-term planning to support our Kenyan partners and build competences in relevant tools.

You will work on sharing good practice and principles of energy planning as well as hands-on training in operating energy models, developing scenarios, analyzing model results and assist the Kenyan partners in formulating concrete policy recommendations to decision-makers in Kenya.

We offer:

  • Unique Opportunity: A unique position within MOEP’s Directorate for Renewable Energy to significantly contribute to the development of Kenya’s energy sector.
  • Diverse Responsibilities: A wide range of tasks, including project management, coordination with local partners and relation building.
  • Professional Development: Opportunities for professional growth and development in a dynamic and international environment.
  • Cross-cultural collaboration: Work with leading Kenyan energy institutions and Danish experts from DEA, RDE and Energinet.
  • Impact: Contribute to the development of a sustainable energy system in Kenya.

Two other LTA’s will operate out of MOEP’s Directorate for Renewable Energy – one engaging with MOEP related to energy market development and power system operations with close cooperation with Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) and other relevant energy entities, and one engaging with MOEP and the Office of the Special Envoy for Climate Change – Executive Office of the President on development and implementation of climate and energy policy.

About You
We are looking for a highly skilled and experienced professional with:

  • Advanced Education: A relevant advanced technical or economic degree at the master's level.

  • Insights into Danish experience: Experience and knowledge about the Danish energy sector and evolution of the energy system is a requirement.
  • Strong Analytical Skills: The ability to analyze complex energy systems and formulate actionable and implementable recommendations.
  • Excellent Communication Skills: Fluency in English, both written and spoken.
