DanChurchAid (DCA) is seeking an experienced and visionary Head of Support Services (HoSS) to support our expanding humanitarian and development programme in Sudan. You will guide a dedicated team, strengthen local partnerships, and ensure DCA’s mission is delivered effectively in one of the world’s most challenging contexts.
DCA recently re-established its physical presence in Sudan, and a key focus of this role will be consolidating the office and all its support systems. The position is currently based in Port Sudan, with frequent field travels.
About DCA in Sudan
DCA has supported Sudanese partners for more than 20 years, responding to conflicts, displacement, and natural disasters. Following the April 2023 conflict, DCA is addressing urgent humanitarian needs across Gedaref, Sennar, Al Gezirah, White Nile, and the Kordofans, helping to save lives, build resilience, and fight inequality.
Our work prioritises localisation and community-led action through humanitarian response, including group cash transfers and SCLR programming ; Protection, gender equality, and conflict prevention; Early recovery and livelihoods support, and a potential expansion into Humanitarian Mine Action (HMA).
Job overview
Reporting to the Country Director and a member of the Senior Management Team, the Head of Support Services (HoSS) will provide leadership, oversight, and guidance on all finance, procurement and logistics, administrative and human resource systems in support of DCA’s Country Programme. The HoSS will therefore be responsible for providing and ensuring an efficient and integrated support service, overseeing a range of crucial tasks, while ensuring the continued smooth running of DCA operations and functions. In this role, you will use your skills to maintain strong relationships across teams by fostering a culture of excellence, continuous improvement, and performance optimisation.
Your role
As HoSS, you will:
Leadership, Strategy & Development :
- Lead the support services team.
- Oversee hiring, training, coaching, and performance management while promoting coordination across the team.
- Manage support services budgets, staffing, technology, and resources.
- Design and apply country-specific SOPs, manuals, tools, and guidelines to ensure efficient and effective service delivery.
Financial management:
- Be responsible for all aspects of the country office’s financial management of programmes, projects and office running costs
- Ensure compliance and timely submission of budgets, financial reports and audits to relevant stakeholders (DCA HQ, donors, governmental authorities etc.)
- Provide technical support to partner organisations in areas including overall financial management, internal control systems, budgeting and reporting, procurement and legal compliance.
Collaboration & Coordination
- Provide technical guidance and oversight to country office operations.
- Collaborate with the Head of Programme to ensure quality control of proposals, budgets, and donor/local authority reports.
- Ensure support functions contribute strategically to the Country Strategy and Plan of Action.
Quality, Implementation & Reporting
- Report regularly in the senior management team meetings, on support services performance, including satisfaction metrics.
- Drive continuous improvement of processes to enhance efficiency and satisfaction.
- Support proposal development and align operational support with programme plans.
What we are looking for
- A minimum of 5 years of INGO work experience, preferably including 3 years in a managerial role. Given the currently modest size of the team, we expect that you will have the ability and interest to take concrete tasks upon yourself.
- Proven experience in all support service fields is required, however your diploma and main experience should be in Finance.
- Fluency in written and spoken English is essential. Arabic a strong asset.
- Good understanding of the humanitarian principles linked to NGO field and operations contexts.
- Work experience in insecure contexts.
- Can uphold DCA values and humanitarian principles in all activities and act as a role model for diversity, inclusion, and team spirit.
- Good leadership, team building and communication skills.
- Flexibility and cultural awareness and sensitivity.

- The employment is contingent upon eligibility to work in Sudan. We offer the possibility to start remotely until visa and permit are issued.
- The posting may be relocated to Khartoum, should this become possible.
