At the Faculty of Engineering and Science, AAU Energy, a position as Assistant Professor in Solid State Medium Voltage Radio Frequency Power Converters is open for appointment from April 1, 2026, or soon hereafter. The duration of the position is two years.

Your work tasks
The position is offered in relation to the research group Power Electronics Packaging, Materials and Emerging Applications and the Assistant Professor will be positioned in the section for Power Electronics System Integration and Materials.

Research area will be within medium voltage solid state radio frequency converters operating from 2 Mega Hz up to 13.56 Mega Hz for 50.000 Watt and you must execute tasks pushing the technical boundaries beyond SOA. New solutions are needed, and research results origin from laboratory experiments initiated by hypothesis proposals and followed by validation. Tasks include power flow control using phase lock loop at from 2 Mega Hz to 13.56 Mega Hz of selected topologies. You must do the hardware realization of the phase lock loop systems and conduct tests in the laboratory. The magnetic system components include the power transformer, and it is expected you design it for system impedance matching for power transfer. The system applications are 1) inductive heating and 2) di-electric heating for alternating voltage medium
voltage peak-to-peak at 6000V and the task is to design a system with proper isolation levels. System builds up is needed connecting the power source, power converter, impedance matching network.

Measurements using oscilloscopes and usage probes for medium voltage is required. As assistant professor you are responsible of the laboratory safety including medium voltage setup and must be able to instruct other people. The work requires ability to have novel ideas. The position requires you can present you results in a research paper format and publish at high level journals and conferences. You must deliver teaching in form of student supervision and classroom teaching.

Research areas will be within power electronics.
Teaching will primarily be in power electronics at the Energy department including classroom teaching and supervision of MsC students at AAU Energy but can also be in cooperation other AAU departments.

Your competencies
The applicant must have a relevant professional and/or educational background within power electronics/electronics with focus on megahertz heating power electronics converter systems.

At AAU Energy a PhD level or equivalent is mandatory and PostDoc or equivalent level is preferred.

Experience with higher than two Mega Hz and minimum experience with more than 1 kilo watt power levels and experience with medium voltage levels here defined as alternating voltage with an RMS value higher than 1000V are required. You must have experience with small signal models of the RF power converter system and be capable to design the phase lock loop circuit. In the laboratory you must be able to do the hardware realization of the phase lock loop system and conduct tests in the laboratory to validate the functionality of the phase lock loop operation in the system. Magnetic system components include the power transformer, and it is expected you can conduct designs hereof using Finite Element Method commercial programs as Comsol or Ansys.

You are expected to have demonstrated a system understanding enabling you to design the Solid State Medium Voltage Radio Frequency Power Converters including resonant tank components values, transformer turn ratio for 1) inductive heating and 2) di-electric heating
for alternating voltage medium voltage.

You must have experimental experience connecting the radio frequency system components power source, power converter, impedance matching network and load. Experience with measurements using oscilloscopes and usage probes for medium voltage is required, you must be able to instruct other people hereof. The work requires ability to have novel ideas that are patentable; you must be able to communicate with patent officers providing relevant text and figures. The position requires you can present you results in a research paper format and obtain publications at high level journals and conferences.

You must have experience of deliver teaching in form of student supervision. The candidate should be prepared to teach in Danish in the future, as bachelor-level courses are primarily offered in Danish. The candidate should be prepared to speak Danish in the project team.

Qualification requirements
Appointment as assistant professor requires academic qualifications at PhD level. The research potential of each applicant will be emphasized in the overall assessment.
