At the Faculty of Engineering and Science, AAU Energy, a position as Assistant Professor in mechatronics is open for appointment from March 1, 2026, or soon hereafter. The duration of the position is four years.
Your work tasks
The position is offered in relation to the research group "Fluid Power" and the Assistant Professor will be positioned to the Section of Mechatronic Systems. Collaboration with the Esbjerg Section is also expected.
Research areas will be within mechatronics, control, fluid power, and with special focus on efficient
hydraulic drive network type systems. The research is expected to be primarily application-oriented and be in line with the section missions. This involves a strong focus on experimental testing and validation, either in the laboratory or through demonstration projects in corporation with industry partners.
Teaching will primarily be in control theory, hydraulics, dynamic systems, and optimization, but also in other study groups at the University. Furthermore, teaching activities will involve supervision of student projects with focus on problem-based learning (PBL).
Your competencies
We are seeking a person with qualifications within the relevant fields who can independently deliver significant research contributions. You will be working in a cross disciplinary environment where communication, coordination and collaboration skills are essential. You will be working within the field of energy efficiency and system design and will be part of developing the field of hydraulic drive networks, why experience and theoretical knowledge within this subject is essential. You should have a strong experience with experimental setups including design, planning, commissioning and testing, especially with hydraulic fluid power systems. You should be proficient in data handling and analysis as well as the visualization and communicate of these analyses.
You should have professional communication skills in both Danish and English. You are expected to have experience with teaching and supervision and should be able to independently plan and conduct teaching within the subjects of non-linear and multivariable control methods as well as other subjects related to mechatronics.
Qualification requirements
Appointment as assistant professor requires academic qualifications at PhD level. The research potential of each applicant will be emphasized in the overall assessment.

The department is located in both Aalborg and Esbjerg, and this position is based at the Aalborg, but where part of the teaching activities have to be carried out at the Esbjerg campus. AAU Energy employs approximately 300 staff members from diverse national backgrounds, including 25 administrative staff, and regularly hosts 30–40 guest researchers from around the world.
