Director Veterinary Business and Quality Control

SEGES P/S

As Director of Veterinary Business and Quality Control in SEGES/Danish Agriculture and Food Council, I was heading 5 departments with a total of 75 staff members within swine and cattle health and production. The colleagues were mainly veterinarians, lab technicians and quality technicians.

All 5 Business units were commercial units and had to earn there income on veterinary and quality services to swine and cattle farmers in Denmark, as well as larger international customers. Main responsibilities were to continue the development of the 5 business units, based on empowerment, development of the team leaders and individuel staff members, in order to reach an even higher customer satisfaction score and a healthy profitability. Building Team Spirit and collaboration between business units was a key task, making the colleagues belong to one big Veterinary Department - which we succeeded to accomplish. The benefit of this work culture excercise was increased flexibility across the business unites, where colleagues on regular basis started to assist colleagues from other business units, and as a result, the annual turnover of the Veterinary Business and Quality Control Department increased.

Reporting to the Boards of Swine and Cattle Farmers and the Excecutive Directors of SEGES were additional important tasks. Here at the monthly Board Meetings, short and long term strategy, budgets, research projects, customer services to farmers, commercial and political development and many more agenda points were discuss and decided. Subsequently, my tasks was to excecute the decisions to real life activities.


Collaboration and negociations with the Danish Veterinary and Food Agency , universities, diagnostic labs and similar public agencies were also key tasks.

Press and media contact, lobbying with national and international political bodies, international farmers organizations and quality ensurence organizations were among the prioritized activities.
