Researcher to Section for Health Data Science and AI

We have a position as a Researcher (part-time, 20%, term-limited, concluding 31/12/2028) to join us in the newly formed Section for Health Data Science and AI at the Department of Public Health, University of Copenhagen - https://ifsv.ku.dk/

The new section combines a wide range of expertise and resources in the data science and AI domains, including machine learning methodology applied to electronic patient record data, omics data, bioinformatics, systems biology and epidemiology. As a member of the team you will be working on disease mechanisms in cardiology, patient stratification and risk estimation. You will be joining a section led by Professor Søren Brunak that focuses on establishing early competitive advantage in disease-relevant computational analysis across the molecular and clinical data levels. We are a diverse and highly multidisciplinary section, which is dynamic and ambitious with many renowned scientific collaborations both nationally and internationally.

Your job
The Researcher will work on using health data science approaches to further our understanding of cardiovascular diseases and utilize electronic healthcare records, genetic data, and biomedical images. The Researcher will identify novel phenotypes from the high-dimensional data that are associated that are associated with cardiovascular diseases and their comorbidities. The Researcher will map phenotypes to a clinical space to produce hypotheses and outcomes with translation potential. The aim is to identify genetic and phenotypic prognostic factors for cardiovascular diseases and their subtypes. Previous experience in this field and managing these challenges is an advantage.

Qualifications
Candidates for the Researcher positions must hold a PhD degree (or equivalent). The successful candidates are expected to have strong qualifications or proven experience within the majority of the following areas:

  • Knowledge of cardiovascular diseases.
  • Health informatics including genetics.
  • At least 6-7 years of expertise in scientific programming (R and Python).
  • Experience with the Linux/UNIX operating system, command lines and shell scripting.
  • Experience with handling, quality control, and analysis of large-scale biomedical datasets such as electronic health record data or genetic data (sequencing/genotyping data) in a High-Performance Compute setting.
  • Strong relationship building ability between academic and clinical environments.
  • Excellent communication skills, and fluency in written and spoken English.

The Section is highly multidisciplinary and collaborates with many other research groups nationally and internationally. Strong networking and team player skills are therefore preferred.

Place of employment and work
The employment is at the newly created Section for Health Data Science and AI at the University of Copenhagen, located in central Copenhagen. The research environment is ambitious, diverse and international and the section comprises modern laboratories, supercomputer resources and state-of-the-art facilities within data science. Seminars with high-profile international speakers and regular internal research seminars are organized at the section. The selected candidate may expect some travel activity.

Terms of salary and employment
The average weekly working hours are 7,4 hours per week.

The position is a fixed-term position limited to a period of 4 years. The start date is 1 January 2024.

Salary, pension and other conditions of employment are set in accordance with the Agreement between the Ministry of Taxation and AC (Danish Confederation of Professional Associations) or other relevant organisation. Currently, the monthly salary starts at 38,500 DKK/approx. 5,100 EUR (April 2024 level). Depending on qualifications, a supplement may be negotiated. The employer will pay an additional 17.1 % to your pension fund.

Foreign and Danish applicants may be eligible for tax reductions if they hold a PhD degree and have not lived in Denmark the last 10 years.

The position is covered by the Job Structure for Academic Staff at Universities 2020.

    The further process
