Returns Investigator Engineer

The Returns Investigation Engineer will provide hands-on expertise and drive troubleshooting and analysis of product returns and data to identify failure mechanisms at the device and ecosystem level. Through teamwork and cross-team collaboration, this critical role will provide insights and solutions that will solve real customer problems and reduce returns.
Highlights
- Troubleshooting: Identify failure mechanisms in physical devices within various ecosystems (hardware, software, connected devices).
- Process Improvement: Establish and enhance process for failure mechanism identification.
- Training: Educate the product quality team on effective troubleshooting and identification of failure mechanisms.
- Documentation: Track and report failure mechanisms and their impact on return rates.
- Investigation: Conduct hands-on investigation of product returns to determine cause, propose viable solutions and design modifications.
- Data Analysis: Analyze device failure data to identify trends and problem solving priorities; report data to cross functional teams.
- Continuous Improvement: Contribute to product design and verification processes aimed at reducing returns.
- Technical Development: Maintain and enhance technical knowledge relevant to investigations and analysis.
- Leadership: Provide guidance and training to quality technicians and colleagues.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related technical discipline, or equivalent work experience.
- Experience: At least 5 years of experience in Quality, R&D, or Operations with a focus on troubleshooting in hardware and electronic product systems.
- Industry Knowledge: Familiarity with operations and R&D processes in the electronics or medical device industry.
- Lean/Six Sigma: Experience in Lean or Six Sigma methodologies is highly desirable.
- ERP Systems: Proficient in using ERP systems.
Competencies
- Strong interest in understanding complex technical systems.
- Knowledge and experience in troubleshooting and identifying failure mechanisms.
- Prioritization skills based on customer impact.
- Ability to analyze data and apply statistical methods for insights.
- Effective time management, especially under pressure.
