Professor of Immunology and Allergy
Department of Immunology and MicrobiologyFaculty of Health and Medical Sciences
University of Copenhagen
The University seeks to appoint a professor to the Department of Immunology and Microbiology (ISIM) to commence as soon as possible.
Information on the department can be found at About the Department – University of Copenhagen
Job description
When considering applications for the professorship, the main emphasis will be on the applicant's ability to document a high level of original scientific work at an international level within the area of immunology and allergy with an emphasis on cellular and molecular mechanisms of disease. The successful applicant should have documented experience with animal models involving different species as well as basic and translational immunology. As the professor is expected to engage in collaboration within the centre, department, and other research environments at the University, experience within fields of immunology that reaches out to adjacent research areas such as microbiology, cancer immunity, and metabolic diseases would be an advantage. The Professor will teach immunology at the faculty and be course leader for a master course in clinical immunology. Furthermore, international and national collaborations are key to all professor positions at ISIM.
The professor’s responsibilities will primarily consist of:
- Research, including publication/academic dissemination
- Research-based teaching, including associated examination
- Research leadership, including guidance and supervision of researchers
- Obligation to share knowledge with the rest of society, including participation in public debate
- Academic assessments
The professor will be attached to the Leo Foundation Skin Immunology Research Centre (https://sic.ku.dk/), which is affiliated at the Department. Currently, research groups at the centre have several areas of focus including psoriasis, contact dermatitis, atopic dermatitis and cutaneous T cell lymphoma. The work of the professor will encompass studies in preclinical disease models to clinical skin disease settings. The professor will be expected to collaborate with clinicians at the affiliated BIOSKIN biobank at Gentofte hospital and conduct state-of-the-art assays on patient material. The overall aim is to provide a fundamental understanding of the immune response in allergic disease contexts.
